Please also check Project Gutenberg for books out of copyright and archive.org & overdrive.com/ for books you can borrow(your local library can sometimes loan overdrive books).
I just checked and the following are available on Overdrive

Invisible Man - Ellison (only as audiobook)
Good book but we're already living 1984.
Great books. Most or all available freely as no longer under copyright but useful to have in kindle. Got two. Thanks.
Copyright runs for 70 years after an author dies in the UK, for books. So some of these will reach that point soon.
Good deal thanks

Doesn't this depend on your local library's catalogue?

As noted, many are public domain but the Penguin editions often have intros and notes which can be useful for historical context - and yes, much of this info is most likely also available online, but having it in one place is what you're paying for.
