Seen this NAS drive on here a number of times in the past at various prices but never this low.. There's much better NAS drives out there but this seems like a very tempting price if you ask me.

WOW such fast cold votes? Has this been found cheaper elsewhere? if so please do explain? considering the price this used to be this is pretty good surely? Of course the prices of storage are going down but the point is this has gone down and you can judge only by its prices elsewhere...

The 1 and 2 star product reviews on Amazon put me off even considering this.

don't trust the reviews because they don't know what they are talking about. You DO NOT need to the internet to access ur own server ( type ip into network places). The reason why netgear done that way because it takes ur ip address ( WAN) and link it to it's subdomain so u dont need to remember the ip address to access ur server ( just the subdomain or netgear name) and it updates it automatically even if you are on adsl. This is good if you have friends that you want to share things quickly.

I did a quick Google and I can't find much in the way of hackery which you an do with this.

When you can trick-out other NAS's with custom servers/Torrent clients/NZB clients and whatever, I'd like to have that option here and it seems it's not on the table??

It's things like that which make the diff between a rudimentary NAS and a genuinely invaluable bit of kit.

It actually works out a bit cheaper at ebuyer, since they do a 500GB HDD with it for £69.99 (well you send off for it). So you could get that and a 1GB HDD for about £115-120, and you'd be able to sell the 500GB HDD for about £25-30, making it around £85-95, which is a little bit cheaper.

Oh, and the advantage of that, is that you'd be able to choose your own drive as the one you get with it is unspecified. I always like to choose my own drive! Don't wanna end up with some schneizer-brand or something.

seagate bar 1tb is in there

hardwarehackersunite.com/ this site is dedicated to hacking the stora. I have one and have my own torrent client installed and a few other services that are not stock. If you know your way around linux this is a very good product for the the price

This is about the right price at the moment, neither hot or cold. Currys had this a few weeks ago for £99.99 (minus £3 for Quidco) so much better then (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/1tb-netgear-stora-nas-99-99-96-99-a/718295).

I picked one up then, admin is easy but I hate the rest of the software on it, which is what a lot of people complain about. To get round it I just hook it up to the router and map as a network drive so it shows in My Computer as any other drive so can drag and drop with ease :-)

Great for PS3 and XBox 360 to, streams videos really well with no lag.

Doesn't have a Torrent server but there are a few around you can download, but some (at least) are unofficial firmware upgrade which I don't fancy, just in case anything goes wrong.

I like my Stora, some people dont. Just run the setup program, map it like I have and you don't need to worry from there on if you want it for network storage and streaming :-)

This is now £154.99 on Amazon but I picked one up today from PC World for £119.99. Should be fine for my needs.
