Amazon Platinum Mastercard £10 Amazon giftcard credit upon acceptance

I am sure this is going to be a controversial one, what with all the stuff about tax, etc. And I don't normally encourage or promote credit cards.

However, I did notice upon checking out that Amazon have launched a new credit card. It's a Platinum mastercard that awards you £10 Amazon credit upon acceptance. During application, they even give you an idea about whether you qualify (not quite sure it amounts to pre-approval though).

Also you get an immediate £500 instant spend at Amazon - I am sure this amounts to a nominal credit limit/amount until your card is up and running.

You also get 1.5 Amazon reward points per £2 spent. And 1 point elsewhere.

It probably compares badly with others for interest rates. But the £10 giftcard has to be worth applying.

Yeah, I get that. As a form of credit not so good, but with a freebie and for those that shop a lot at Amazon might be worth it?

1000 points = £4.50

so if you apply and get accepted for this you receive £10, do you pay any type of fees for having the card or pay nothing at all unless its used?
So sign up get £10 throw it away?

"Whenever your Amazon Reward Points balance reaches 1,000 points, a £10 Amazon.co.uk Gift Card will be automatically loaded to your linked Amazon.co.uk account within two working days of your next statement."

So that works out to be 0.75% rewards at Amazon and 0.5% at other places. Since Amazon accepts Amex, you can get better rewards with other cards for both Amazon and non-Amazon spending.

Personally if you're not intending to use the card, I don't think £10 is enough of a bribe to put something unnecessary on your credit report.

Amazon credit card just launched in US gives you 5% cashback on Amazon spending, they need to launch something like that here, this offer is not worth bothering with, each points worth less than 1p for your Amazon spend. If you want to get a sign up bonus theres plenty of other cards pay you more than £10 to take them out, through cashback sites.

There's cards with 0% plus cashback if you're after just a purchase card. One of your biggest spend could be fuel and that tenner don't seem so generous.

Had the Amazon Mbna card a few years back.
Good until Amazon switch card suppliers and you just get moved to a standard card.

Amazon do not provide the credit, they only put their name to it and pay cashback.

Credit is provided by Newday Ltd. They do several store cards like Debenhams and also subprime Aqua card.

Interest rate is poor, it would negate and earnings through cashback compared to a normal card elswehere.

Interest free period at 3 months is poor aswell.

Applying for a credit card for £10 voucher would be insane.

Have a feeling this is between subprime and prime card. May be good for those that cant quite get a prime card as may have lower acceptance criteria. Thats purely a guess though.

Oh God newday are a nightmare to deal with, and the last time I called them it the number was premium rate and was the only way to contact them - hope it's changed.

I saw that, Prime only but might be worth having if it comes here and already pay for Prime as I do.

£25 Quidco for a Barclaycard 25m 0%, plus £20 cashback for £500 spend in first three months is a much better option for "free" cash.
