Indeed just your opinion. Even if you think they're idiots they're three very rich idiots, I'd love to be as thick as them then.

Only Amazon can charge for delivery and claim it is a deal!
Amazon used to delivery everything THEY stocked for FREE, and i mean everything, they are such a power seller with Royal Mail that's how they could ship everything via 48 hour (2nd class) for free, then they got greedy.
Granted their throwing in some extras like movies and tv now, but it's still a hard sell to me.
Play.com pioneered FREE delivery in the UK, since it was bought over by Rakuten and became a market place, Amazon didn't have any direct competition.
So many places on line offer free delivery it has become the norm, many places offer next day for very little.
    Pay for delivery, no thanks!

With the £20 discount it's now only £10 more expensive than it was last year.

This is genius. Nobody was buying it at £49 so increase to £79 and then make it a "deal" for £59!

    For all the tax comments:
I pay too much tax already and the government mostly uses it to subsidise underserving indolents, which is guaranteed to slow up the economy. More tax is a bad thing. Governments of all colours do not spend my money effectively.

If I can buy off a retailer which arranges it's tax affairs efficiently and offers good prices, that suits me just fine. I have a very clear conscience.

Prime is brilliant.. If you're not fussed about getting a delivery next day, then you can choose their no-rush delivery and get a £1 credit towards e-books, and downloads. We order about 200 items a year (even if we're ordering multiple items, we break the order down into 1 item per order), that way we get £1 credit per item. Amazon still bundle them back into 1 delivery. So we have had over £100 of credits that we've spent on books and films that my son has on his iPad, and when you do want something in a rush, you get it next day. Hot from me.

Me: I've seen that you're discounting Amazon prime at the moment. I'm a longstanding member but I'd like to take advantage of the offer too.

Amazon: Certainly, Sir. It would give me the greatest of pleasure. As you have paid the full price for so long, your next two renewals will be free of charge.

Me: Thank you. And could I also have the 5% NUS discount, as I am studying the implications of international tax avoidance by large American corporations?

Amazon: That too is possible - I will apply it to your account immediately.

    Me: You're my wife now.

Told them I'm dissapointed they are doing a promotion, I would have waited if I had known the did promotion.

They refunded the full £79(had it for 6months) Then gave me a link for a new £59 subscription. £20 refund and 6months free. Very happy.

There's a whole other conversation there. It's all about supply and … There's a whole other conversation there. It's all about supply and demand. How many people play the right wing, petrol headed buffoon as well as Clarkson? Or are good foils for his buffoonery? That's where their value is, personally I don't value what they offer but millions do and are willing to pay for it.Same as footballers, there's probably a maximum of five kids each year out of the entire schools intake across England (approx 800,000 start school every year in England) who start playing as soon as they're old enough to kick a ball and who go on to represent their country, that makes them a pretty rare commodity (about 1 in every 160,000) and that's how they achieve their rewards regardless off their IQ. Again, it's all about whether you value their particular gifts, if you do you pay to go to the game or buy your Skysports subscription, if you don't you wonder why anybody would want to watch 22 grown men run around after an inflated pig's bladder. (Notwithstanding that the keepers wait for the ball rather than chase it but a non fan may not know or care about that!)All in my very humble opinion anyway.

only on hukd can a deal about a delivery service end up being a debate about jeremey clarkson!

Different strokes for different folks. I want to have an excuse for sign up for Prime, I really do but just can't justify it.

Next day delivery on 1000s of items
I'm a patient man. I can't remember the last time I needed next day delivery on something, must be five years or so ago. It would be nice, but not a necessity.

Two hour delivery in London (and I think Birmingham) on selected items
This I admit I don't know much about, but I'm guessing the selection has to be jolly small.

Evening delivery on orders placed before mid day on selected items (depending on location)
This I wasn't aware of but see my points above.

    Amazon Instant Video
But surely everyone has to admit the selection is total rubbish, no? I have looked at it a number of times over the years and it's always been worse than Netflix (which is never awesome). It looks to me like a gateway to sell you video hire and purchase from their full library.

    Amazon Streaming Music
This I can see being a big draw for some people if you're into streaming music, it's just that I'm not. I have never had any interest in other services either.

    Unlimited cloud backup of photos
I would have thought totally pointless for most. The extra hassle of third party apps to achieve this is a non-starter. Wouldn't you want to back it up to a computer any way? Otherwise you're locked into paying for Prime forever

Which stores do you go to ?

Did you see this? amazon.co.uk/gp/…-21 So I guess the answer to your question is, 'Ummm... anywhere'. Lol.

I can't take credit for this, it was posted earlier in the thread, but it's jolly funny.

Put it up by £20 then put it back down again a couple of months later. And the suckers will still come.

I still don't get it. This is one of the hottest rated deals ever because people are paying £59 for delivery rather than freepost from thousands of other sites. How often are Amazon actually the cheapest? I buy items from the Internet all the time and only use Amazon once in a while. Even then, super saver is perfectly fine and the threshold is low enough to make it easily achievable. Prime is convenient but not cheap and certainly not the hottest deal of the day. I'm prepared to be educated here, but I just don't get it. Even on here people are saying the other services (music and so on) are limited. What's the point all this apart from to lock customers into buying from one site who do actually contribute far less pound for pound to our economy than most other retailers.

Mmmm have finally taken the plunge and signed up mainly to stop myself buying any more cheap tape measures to take orders that were between £19 and £20 over the magical £20 threshold for free delivery...think my OH is under the impression I have some massive DIY project on the horizon considering the number of the darned things I have bought....lol...

Admittedly I can't see that much benefit for myself apart from not having to buy tat I don't want to make orders up to £20 to get free delivery...not that interested in the movies and music, don't need nappies of any kind, don't have a kindle and Amazon don't do next day delivery to my area...now wondering after typing all that why the hell I've signed up for it!!!!

On the other hand going to split the membership with my parents so only going to cost £29.50 for each of us and at the end of the day it will possibly be worth it for the free delivery side of things.
