Is this attitude that kills deals for everyone else!
Not as much of a joke as someone who thinks open backed headphones could have noise cancellation...

Spoiler: Headband is not the most comfortable of all but warm sound, great clarity, tight punchy bass makes it his personal favorite among HD5XXs according to reviewer
No its not, they are quite good headphones.
If you don't need noise cancellation then you will get better sound quality without it, the best headphones don't have it. Like for like sound quality on headphones with and without noise cancellation come at very different prices (in general).
The fact that these are open back headphones means that they are not really supposed to be used in noisy places anyway, unless you are inconsiderate and want everyone else to listen to whatever you are listening to (bear that in mind when buying these everyone).
Shouldn't have any issues, I can still buy spares for the Sennheiser's I bought almost 20 years ago.
In fairness this maybe wants putting on the main post with a brief explanation of what this is to save funny looks on the tube/bus for unsuspecting buyers.
Anyone recommend them over closed back?
Is the sound quality better?
Only intending to listen to music in my room.
I have a pair of gaming "closed back" headphones which are good for games but pants for music, so I am getting sick of the poor quality, hence my purchase of these.
Open back is generally better for what you are wanting them for. If it doesn't matter about people hearing whats on them, they tend (in general) to offer a more spacious sound. You can get very good (and bad) sounding of both, but in general you want open for home, closed for out and about.
