The weekend is here So I thought I’d put together a list of the current £1.99 Amazon Prime Video (exclusive to Prime members) available. You’ll find each title hyperlinked to its store page with its IMDB score sat beside it.

I’ve highlighted the IMDB high and low score, which we’ll refer to as the ‘Standout’ and ‘Rotten Tomato’ titles, and also what I’ll be watching. If somebody feels I should be watching something better, do let me know

I’ve categorised the titles into age rating.

IMDB Standout title-Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse [8.5]

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

IMDB user review…

“A movie worthy of Stan Lee's approval. Incredible animation, great story, great message. This film lives up to the hype and honestly surpassed my expectations. The only reason I think there are some negative reviews is because you can never please everyone. However, for the vast majority of viewers, I believe you'll find this film to be great. Highly recommend seeing it in theaters just for the amazing animation style.”

The Rotten Tomato - Holmes and Watson [3.8]

The Step Brothers are reunited - this time playing the world's greatest detective and his loyal sidekick & biographer.

IMDB user review…

“Why did I give it an 8. I watched it stoned. You gotta love John and will.”

What I’ll be watching - Mortal Engines [6.1]

Hundreds of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, a mysterious young woman, Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar), emerges as the only one who can stop London -- now a giant, predator city on wheels -- from devouring everything in its path.

IMDB user review...

“The movie starts with a great sequence introducing us to the post apocalyptic-steampunk world, and how it works. But from their on the movie is predictable and rushed, with story lines that you have seen elsewhere and executed better elsewhere. It's predictablility wouldn't hurt if the story and most of its characters were compelling enough to allow the audience to be invested and care. As the third act of the movie began I quickly tried to rummage through the entire movie trying to justify watching the movie and I was left with only a few reasons. One of them was the world created.

Standout character: Shrike, solid arc and amazing design. (You have seen this character in the trailer).

That indeed would be stupid.

If only Amazon Prime offered some other benefits too...
Fantastic Effort Avoid Cold Pursuit- simply shocking and I won't get them 2 hours back
Green Book was the best out of that lot. Easily. The Papillon remake is nowhere near as good as the original. Cold pursuit was dreadful. Enjoyed Instant Family too. I didn’t see Holmes and Watson, and don’t think I will. Good idea with the list

HEAT! thanks matey
Hard to see how Holmes and Watson scores as highly as it does! I can normally forgive Will Ferrell any amount of silliness but this crossed the line into so bad it's bad territory!
Great effort, heat added.

I need 4K only content though

I agree Green Book is a cracking film. I was hugely disappointed with Vice, it felt rushed and disjointed.
Well done for the effort. Heat from me
Excellent! Will have a look at Stan and Ollie but tempted by Welcome to Marwen... Can recommend Bumblebee...
Thanks to the OP for their effort of posting. Very useful.
That's a pretty cracking list. There are a few there I didn't want to buy, but would happily rent for £2.

However Holmes and Watson, has to rank as one of the worst films ever made and would want to be paid more than £2 to watch it again.

Into the spider-verse might just be the best superhero/Spider-man movie out there.
Assassination Nation is a underrated piece of glorious trash.

Spider-man is excellent, annoyingly it's on the US Netflix but not on the UK Netflix.

its good and a lot of effort but don't forget they get paid for it as they work for the site and part of their job.

Is it really such an effort? The range of movies is easily accessible on Amazon and there are only a handful of movies that are actually appealing.

These sorts of 'stating the obvious' posts just seem like heat grabbing on something everyone else wouldn't bother posting. Like the people who repeatedly stay up to midnight every night to be the first to post Amazon's deal of the day. Who can't check that for themselves?

You could say the same for any deal. This extended range of films has been added today. Do you expect everyone to check Amazon every day when instead they can check this site and some kind person will flag things up for them?
Nice effort Buzz and a decent range of films.

I'd commend Spider-Verse, Stan and Ollie, Bumblebee, Instant Family, Green Book, If Beale St Could Talk and Widows.
I would recommend not paying amazon 79 pound a year for the opportunity to pay 1.99 a rental for a very limited selection of films when you can get any 4 films you want on blu-ray for 7.38 (for the month) from cinema paradismo (average 1.84 a rental.) You can watch as many times as you want, keep as long as you want (within the month) and get far superior quality on blu-ray versus streaming.

You mean like amazon instant with its incredibly poor selection of films and TV ? And free postage which you can get anyway if you make your purchases in 20 pound bundles (or order from 3rd party sellers that often have the same price with free postage.)

But my gripe is more with the cost of online streaming in general, its up to a fiver for a HD rental, which you have to watch within a 48 hour window and is poorer quality than blu-ray. And in this case they make out they're doing you a favour by offering you a small film selection for 2 quid as part of an already expensive subscription.

I don't know why people would eat an apple when they could eat an orange instead but i've never eaten an orange pie.

I don't pay 79 quid a year but if I did it wouldn't be for prime video or rentals.
Cinema Paradiso is fine but I prefer owning movies rather than renting especially physical media.

Agree with you on Green Book. Not the bravest film out there, but solid and enjoyable. Well worth a look.

Never heard of them before. Is this like one of the mail rental companies that used to exist before the likes of Netflix? I went to the Cinema Paradiso site but there's not a lot of info there like if they do 3D or 4K. Seems ridiculously cheap though when you consider that they pay postage four times on two rentals a month for £5.18.
Black Panther 4k UHD is available at £12.99
and Ant Man & the Wasp (Ant Man 2) 4k UHD at £12.49; both down from £17.99.

"Exclusive Prime Member discount" I should add.
Ooooooh, great post this. Thanks so much for the time taken and the focus on what we need. I've ID'd 3-4 for the next week or so.
I really enjoyed 12th Man, probably still free on Netflix if you have it

Yep they are the last one standing. They do 3D and 4K - but not available during the free trial period. IMO the 4 rentals for 7.38 is the best value.

I expect they will eventually go out of business too because people are moving to streaming - but as I say I don't get it. People are paying up to 3 times more for an inferior product and convenience for me is having the latest couple of releases sat there to watch whenever i want as many times as I want. (btw I'm not knocking Netflix - I see them as offering a different service, their strength is in series with the odd film here and there.)

I do not see any £7.38 option on the site. There is:
  • 1-at-a-time, up to 2 a month for £5.18
  • 1-at-a-time & unlimited discs for £9.98 a month
  • 2-at-a-time & unlimited for £12.98 month

I agree about the advantages of renting disks over buying. I understand that if you have kids, they like to watch a film time after time but personally I rarely rewatch a film and I cannot be bothered to sell them as the value just plummets.

And I've never come across a streamed 3D film.

I logged out to see the new customer options and you're right, my 2 discs at a time, 4 rentals a month option had disappeared. I asked on online chat as I was worried I would have to change my plan at some point. Weirdly they said the option was still available and if someone joined on a free trial they could then ask for it !
Worth a look.
‘Free Solo’ is an incredible documentary. Definitely recommend people seeing that one.
