It's been around in the US for a while but now available here! Get free Amazon Prime for 6 months and then only £39 per year after that, if you have a .ac.uk email address.

Includes Prime Instant video once you've paid the £39.

EDIT: Also available without a .ac.uk email address, as long as you have one of these:
• A proof of student status letter (must be printed on official institution headed paper and include student name and address, course details and start date, expected graduation/completion date)

• A tuition bill for the current term (must include institution name, course details and start date, student address)

• A tuition invoice for the current term with your name and your institution’s name on it

• An official acceptance letter for the upcoming term (must be printed on official institution headed paper and include student name and address, course details and enrolment date, expected graduation/completion date

Copy and pate this: network-tools.com/def…st=

into your address bar and add the long version of your university domain in e.g 'newcastle.ac.uk' and you will find the 'real' domain for the email server listed such as 'ncl.ac.uk'

Great, signed up for it but probably won't get much use out of it as I use flubit to get ~11% off and I only normally use Amazon direct for Subscribe & Save items for 15% off, which you can't use Prime for.

That's very interesting thank you a lot for posting it. Do previous standard free-trials affect it in anyway?

If you don't have an ac.uk addy

If we determine you're eligible, we'll send you a follow-up email within 3-5 business days that contains a link which allows you to complete the signup process without an .ac.uk email address. However, you must sign up for Amazon Student within 14 days of receiving this follow-up email, otherwise you will need to contact Customer Service again to register

I had a 30 day trial that ended yesterday and just signed up for this today - so I guess not!

I've used the 30 day free trial in the past and it's let me sign up for the 6 month student trial.

Awesome! I will sign up.

Is there an option to pay the £39 now, get Amazon Instant Video now but have the membership include the 6 months i.e. 18 months in total?

Thanks for the replies! Does it matter if your ac.uk e-mail address isn't your amazon e-mail address?

I have a .ac.uk email address but I'm not a student so don't qualify, which is a shame. Still get my NUS Extra discount though.:)

No, you just get an email to your .ac.uk which you click to confirm. The prime is added to your normal amazon account.

Another reason to stick 2 fingers up after the price hike for prime with amazon, if you are not a student.
So, we have been given "free" films, had the price hiked (forthcoming) & all the while folk deemed students get it for nowt for 6 months & then essentially half of what is being foisted upon the rest of us!?

FFS, way to go amazon.

Oh wait, never mind...

"If you'd like to upgrade to a £39 per year Amazon Prime membership before the end of the free trial in order to gain access to Prime Instant Video titles and the Kindle Owners' Lending Library sooner, you can do so at any time by going to Manage Your Prime Membership. Once paid membership is selected, you'll no longer be eligible for the free Amazon Prime trial associated with Amazon Student, even if your paid membership is subsequently cancelled."

Might just pay the £39 now, great value I'd say! Plus it seems you can renew for up to four years even if you graduate this year (which I do).

Awesome, graduate in two months, this is perfect

I haven't been a student for a very long time, but my ac.uk address just got me Student Prime membership.

Oddly, though, my regular Prime membership (due to expire in August) seems to have been overwritten. I've sent them an email as I'd like a refund if that's the case.

ta for that, cant go wrong for free!

My .ac.uk address won't work. They say it's a "temporary problem".

Make your mind up! Yes, flubit don't match Amazon codes (like the recent £5 off a £30 spend) but they don't come up very often, hence why I said I have signed up for it but won't use it very often.

So if you pay upfront you wont get 18 months worth?

This is worth noting if you're an existing Prime member and share the benefits with others:

Note: Amazon Student members receiving Amazon Prime benefits as part of a … Note: Amazon Student members receiving Amazon Prime benefits as part of a free trial or discounted annual membership won't be able to share their delivery benefits. Amazon Family members receiving Amazon Prime delivery benefits as part of a free trial and customers receiving a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime benefits with Kindle Fire won't be able to share their benefits. All existing shared household members will continue to receive delivery benefits if the primary member switches to Amazon Prime as offered by one of these programmes. However, the primary member won't be able to add or change shared household members if they move to one of these programmes.

Great for people who have graduated from an institution that offers a lifetime email address!

What's the domain of your e-mail? Mine is "my.tynemet.ac.uk", I think the fact that there's 3 dot-somethings rather than the simple ".ac.uk" has messed it up.

I've e-mailed them asking them to clarify and I've got documents scanned ready to send them if they need to see proof of my eligibility.
