Just got the nod on today's treasure truck offering.

Usual Amazon price £249 - £75 saving

The Ring 5 piece alarm system comes with Base station, Keypad, motion detector, contact sensor and range extender

if you've got any other ring products its a good addition to your setup.

Why we picked it
Ring’s alarm home security system gives you the re-assurance of home monitoring without the costly long-term subscription fees. Everything you need to set up is in the box and the system works in any home.

Using Ring’s free app, you can manage your home security all from one place once you’ve set up your base station (keeps your alarm system online and connected), keypad (arms and disarms your system), motion detector (detects motion wherever its placed), contact sensor (lets you know when doors or windows open), and range extender (extends the signal from your base station to all alarm components).

Unlike a lot of security systems, the motion detectors’ sensitivity can be tailored so as (when weighing under 22 kgs approx., when mounted at 2.1 metres above ground and set at the lowest motion sensitivity setting).

I bet you any money that it will be cheaper in 2023, or even better second-hand refurbished in 2024.

Was just weighing up the pros and cons - it’s an Amazon product so will probably be heavily reduced come Black Friday/cyber Monday if you can wait.

Most black friday discounts come down to the treasure truck prices, plus that's a bit of a wait innit.Currently £249 on usual Amazon Prime

Annoying that Amazon.com have this for £145 with a free dot. It won't ship to UK

No need to wait for Black Friday, Prime Day will have heavy discount too. I reckon it will be quite a bit cheaper then given this has Alexa support (notably no Google Assistant) which Amazon are so desparate to push.

Where does it say this has Alexa?

Where does it say this has Alexa?

I mean it is compatible with Alexa, which is written in the listing. Amazon trying to build an ecosystem. No Google Assistant support for a reason.

This works with Alexa, it doesn’t have it stand-alone.. I’ve set my speaker in the hallway to give a random “welcome home” message when mine is disarmed

Many security products are compatible with Alexa.

Yes, but many are also compatible with other assistants like Google Assistant and Siri. Amazon only made this compatible with Alexa to stop you switching.

Understood - but you don't NEED Alexa for this to work. In fact I rarely use it that way for my other Ring items

Of course not, but lots of people will want to use the functionality. The whole point is Amazon want to get your home filled with all smart home products that only work with Alexa, so you don't consider an alternative as it is too expensive to switch. Even if not everyone uses Alexa, if they want to choose between platforms having an Alexa compatible device already in the house can change things.

Quite correct and we were like you until we learned we can get our Ring cams/doorbell displayed directly onto our TV via our fire stick. We now use this very frequently and have also set up our Echos to alert us audibly of any motion. I think Amazon are (finally!) developing the Alexa/Ring integration and I'm sure there will be many more developments to come. Can't wait.

Have you managed to somehow get the Ring Doorbell to fire up onto your TV/Echo Show etc on press? Rather than having to say "Show front door" etc?

I've only just started to use that when I don't have my phone to hand (which it usually is)
All learnings

I don't think officially, which in my opinion is pretty stupid to not, seeing as Google's Hello and Hub can do exactly that... Would make the Echo Show's a lot more useful if they automatically turned on like the Google hubs do.

I looked into the whole Routine thing a while back, but it's a bit of a hassle!

I followed this one but found the echo show couldn't hear the 2nd gen echo announcement. I don't know whether it is faulty or just deaf, the other echo in another room can hear it. If you have a doorbell tune as well it plays it after that and the announcement that "someone is at the front door".

Hoping Amazon/Ring implement an option for auto video, though given it's been so long since the release of the original doorbell and Echo Show, I doubt they will, though here's to hoping!

2 years since Amazon actually bought Ring. I think they're scared witless over the privacy aspects for those that bough the Ring devices before then. Ts&Cs probably don't cater for Amazon to utilise the video feed.
Who knows, but whatever reason it's not been done yet is a pretty poor show (echo )

No, and stupidly if you link a Ring security camera you can only allow triggered recording and turning on lights, not the siren.

Has something to do with noise pollution/false alarms in the US, but I don't see why they can't allow this in UK/Europe.

My point was that it’s not that price in the USA. You need to add sales tax. So even if they shipped to the uk you can’t buy it for that price. There are only a few states in the us that can buy it for that price without sales tax being added. It’s not a fair comparison because the uk price includes vat whilst in the US the sales tax gets added.

They will ship to uk if you use a third party to ship for you.
