Cheers...

Since posting the above and (before), i cant seem to find any other 1TB Hard Drives better priced from a well known supplier.

All i will be using it for is "still" data storage, DSLR "RAW" photos, large documents, etc etc so it looks ok for me..

Cheers

Many Thanks.

I'm just about to buy one of these, but I wanted to check. Is there one of these with an ethernet connection instead so I can plug it in to the wireless router?

Alternatively could I use some kind of usb to ether net adapter to plug the drive into the wireless router? I saw a couple of expensive products which did that (techradar.com/rev…iew - looks lke a bad review too), but I wondered if there was a simpler solution. Such as amazon.co.uk/exe…H70 with a patch cable. OR amazon.co.uk/exe…H70 which will allow the harddrive usb cable to be plugged into the wireless router direct. Surely all that's needed is a direct link?

I agree. Tescos Iomega drives have now all increased significantly in price else I would have suggested them. This is an even better deal now because of this.

No, you also either need a bridge board on the hard drive or in the router to translate the usb data into network data. Some routers like the Apple Airport Extreme have a usb port which allows you to hook up printers and hard drives to use on your wireless network. You tend to pay a bit more for that.

Those simple usb to network adapters you linked convert a network cable into a usb cable - you need to attach a suitable adapter to each end. You cannot make a usb to network cable that way.

pcworld.co.uk/pro…744

Same price PC world, which you could collect in store.

Would you be so kind as to suggest a product if you happen to know of one? I'm in the market for something similar myself.

That's a web-exclusive offer at PC World which also charges you £4.95p for P&P. The instore price is £89.99p, so the Amazon deal is still better.:p

Cold, since £70 has been the standard price of external 1TB drives for months.

I paid £70 for one of these from PC World before Christmas! Would have thought the price would have dropped by now.

just got one of these this week from Dixons for £65:54 free delivery plus Quidco using 5% voucher on wepromiseto to get it at this price.:whistling:

Picked one up from Currys had the print out of the pcworld price and he said I would have to buy it online and pick it up. But then for some reason he did it for me there in the store so got it at this price.

Damn..the networked 1 tb drive are so much more expensive. amazon.co.uk/s/r…y=0

I use a lap top and move it around the house a lot. So thinking about it it would make sense to connect the harddrive to the wireless router rather than lug it around with me when moving and disconnecting downloads in the process.

True but you can actually buy online and reserve for in-store collection. Or when I bought a PC I printed out a copy of the website price and showed em, and they charged the website price and said I was a "collect in store".

are these the same actual size as the lower capacity drives? dimension wise?

Thanks

Guys which is better , this wd drive or this?
1TB Seagate Expansion ST310005EXD101-RK, Piano Black, External USB2 Hard Drive, 7200rpm
which is 65 quid on scan

just to add there's no on/off switch on it.

Iomega drive from Tesco failed after just 3 months and cannot be initialised.I was quoted £600 to £1050+ by Iomega data recovery for this drive!! Under warranty they want receipt of any data recovery by other companies for replacement! Be Aware of Iomega...

£64.97 @ Tesco, instore and online, just bought one from Chichester. Could someone put this as a deal, possibly cheaper online if you can use the £5 off voucher

I reserved one of these last week for in store collect at Keighley in Yorkshire, and when i got there to pick it up, they gave me a MyBook Essentials drive for £68.94.
Result, much better drive
