I have never posted anything before but I saw this in my local Aldi today for £12.00 and thought I would give it a try.

It is in bright red and look ridiculous in our kitchen. I have always been completely against these capsule machines, purely because I know nothing about them and the capsules seemed a bit pricey.

But for £12 with a 3 year warranty and it takes Nespresso Capsules.....it's great for using after all the dinner parties we have......or in stark reality sitting on the side gathering dust and looking ridiculous!!!

AWESOME!

over 1 million capsules a day going into land fill and totally non bio …over 1 million capsules a day going into land fill and totally non bio degradable

Aluminum capsules are easily recycled - just take them to Starbucks. L'or are aluminium, great tasting and reasonably priced (20p each on a good day).

My Aldi's having a discount of items which have already been discounted. Crazy prices such as duvet sets for £1.99. I think it's store specific but it's worth looking in.
I purchased it from the Derby store near the main hospital. They didn't have others at the location where I picked this one up from but I never looked because I wasn't expecting to write about it.

wonder how many send back compared to what they sell i bet its far less than 1/4 of those that are sold
They had these in Huntingdon store in the locked cabinet with all the electrical items and the price label showed £39.99 reduced from £49.99, it may scan at £12 but I didn’t check as don’t need one

Probably. Not sure what your point is though, surely that’s on the users not the manufacturers

our systems are subsidising this type of carbon inefficienct products, lots of energy to create pods and then use a load of energy to dismantle them again, whats to like about that ? they should be taxed out of business, same with printer manufacturers who create printers that only work with their copyrighted cartridges

its also a very control centralised model and closed off to competition, no one can produce coffee for these machines without being licensed by the company that makes them

Thats the good thing about Nespresso and L'or's capsules , 100% recyclable. Aluminum is cheaper and more energy efficient to recycle than it is to make new from ore. The grounds are recovered and used in compost.

Tassimo on the other hand has these plastic discs which seem to contain a lot more plastic than others.

It seems this is an area you have more knowledge than me in but I think I understand your point.
I can’t say I’ll give up my nespresso as a result but thanks to this thread I’ll use my bialetti more often and start recycling the pods (I didn’t know that Starbucks would take them in before reading it here).

Clearance item prices are set by the store manager so it will literally be different from store to store.
What is this ?? No store mention, no proof required ?? This is how hukd operates now or just for today ??
I’ve got one of these and they’re great. I also use the Aldi capsules. ( £1.69 pack of 10).

Capsule coffee is actually pretty good for what it is. Try Colonna capsules or cry kafe if you are tight.

Yes a proper bean to cup machine is better but you have to remember coffee flavour starts to go off after 6 weeks of roasting so you need to have a full bag within 6 weeks of the roast date.

Capsules are vacuum sealed they stay fresher longer so it suits me who has 1 coffee every other week.

It's quicker and more convenient and less messy than making coffee other ways, It takes no time to put the used capsules in a bag, which you can take when its full , when you happen to go past somewhere that takes them.

I used to drink instant (shudder) and sometimes use an espresso machine when I could be bothered.
But Nespresso is far more convenient for me and I no longer drink instant. So to me it makes total sense.

If you are a heavy coffee drinker or need to make coffee for a lot of people it probably doesn't make sense.

I used to throw a lot of ground coffee and beans into the compost because I didn't get around to using it.

This all being said, I don't understand why people use pod machines for hot chocolate!
Pods are the least of our worries, when people throw fast food cartons out of their car window, while they are sitting a few feet from a bin, we don’t have much hope

not true! only producers licensed by the coffee pod machine company are legally allowed, others are unlicensed and illegitimate, counterfeit! one of the reasons the coffee pod machine company changes their pod designs from time to time is to stop reusable pods becoming available, that would harm their little monopoly game.

The pod machine caper IS probably growing the coffee industry by enticing new and more people into drinking real coffee, but this growth will lead to a likely monopolising of the whole industry which would be a terrible thing for consumers but most of all independent producers of coffee
