wow, this is an insane price. Now all I've gotta do is work out how to cool it..
This is server Cpu?
Is it worth considering this as an upgrade to the 1920X?
I would not get this as the next desktop ryzen processor will be 12 core.

That's the 3900x. Order today! £480 though.

It's a pretty marginal upgrade.
For most people, the 2700 or similar - 8 cores, £190 is going to be 90% as fast (at half the cost). It also needs a far cheaper motherboard. If you want the absolute fastest, this threadripper is where is at though.

I saw that too and the reviews are good. Surely that makes this Threadripper redundant unless you want to invest in the platform with the intent on upgrading later.

Yes, or if you need the extra features of the TR platform; PCIe lanes, RAM bandwidth and quantity.

If you really need those features then I imagine you’d get a better Threadripper chip not the entry-level one. I just think this is a bit niche. We get this whenever the entry-level Intel HEDT chips pop up for sale too.

Not really as some workloads don't require massive amounts of CPU but will benefit from the platform features.
That's why AMD and Intel make so many SKUs.
Cold tbh. The £100 you save over the 3900x is spent on the motherboard. May aswell get the 3900x and enjoy better IPC and boost clocks.
If you insist on having a thread-ripper build then this is a stoker of a deal.
