AMD A8 5600K Black Edition 3.6Ghz Quad Core + Free SimCity Game Coupon £73.80 delivered @ ebuyer

Not a ground breaking price, but still the cheapest delivered price I can find. Cheapest ever according to Amazon's price history.

Bonus that they all seem to be coming with the free SimCity download coupon too.

Full spec listed on the Ebuyer site.

EDIT: 8p price drop!!!!!!!!!!!!! 28p more on Amazon for those not trusting of Ebuyer. Also been pointed out that SimCity is fetching up to £30 on Ebay, which pro rata could make this cheap as low as £43.80.

I built a PC recently with the A8-5500 and can recommend it for pace. Graphics wise, I reckon a serious PC enthusiast should look at it as a stop gap unless using an antiquated monitor.

I'm about to order this 3spartan. I was hoping for a 5500 due to the lower power usage (65W) but I can live with the extra performance kick this will give!

As a matter of interest, what games have you tried and what was the quality like? I'm building mine as a HTPC primarily but would like to dabble in the occassional game (The Walking Dead series etc).

Take a look at this BF3 video on YouTube: here

Iz dis betta than Intel?

Thanks thecresta - impressive, and I probably wouldn't even be using anything that intensive on it. I was hoping it could perform better than my Xbox360, and it looks like it can.

It's my son's machine and he only plays Battle for Middle Earth titles which are 6 or 7 years old so max settings on everything. And Sims 2 and 3, which look fine to me no idea what setting are on that. And things like Moshie Monsters online etc. No Battlefield 3 or anything like that, yet.

When I built it him he had an old HD (1366 x 768) monitor. Then he got a full HD (1920 x 1080) so there's now a lot lot more pixels to power so in the future I will put in a graphics card.

Check out Youtube people post videos of games with A8 chips and detail the settings.

Seems a bit low on the old frames-per-sec, but considering it's running on ultra texture settings...

Damn impressive package for £75. Seriously tempting me to replace my old Revo HTPC.

OMG! Noes! Intel FTW!

I have a spare Intel G840 (purchased for £30) which leaves £43.80 for a discrete graphics card.

Which is better, the AMD or Intel with £43.80 to spend on a dedicated graphics card?

Best with plenty of fast RAM, 1866

It's worth watching mate, but check out the sequel Athlon II. It's one of the rare cases where sequel beat the original.

I'd say the Intel. Get a GT630 or AMD 6670 if you want to play a few games.

Now £74.08 and the same price at Amazon

Going up 28p, dealbreaker for me.

Dont forget to get as high speed of ram as possible to get the most out of the integrated graphics.

If you can wait, then the new 'Richland' chips from AMD are set to be released in June. Likely to get more bang for your buck.

Direct upgrade from the last series, so this A8-5600K is to be replaced by an A8-6600K etc etc

Will they be Intel killers?

I just did my first build with this the other day. I try'd out AMD dual graphics but have resigned to using a stand alone 6670, imo dual graphics is very hit and miss. on the plus side with some fast ram the inbuilt graphics are almost as good as a 6670 ddr3. maybe about 5fps here and there different.

For the money, yes. you can quite easily sell sim city for £25.

Sadly, I don't think AMD will ever produce an 'Intel killer'. Those days have passed.

Voted hot, even though EBuyers customer server sucks. OK, if you don't have problems with it.

Any recommendations on a decent mobo to go with it? Under £50 if possible?

M1sterDeeds

Will they be Intel killers?

No, but they will probably be better value for money for most people, and will be faster and more energy efficient than the current generation.

If they are better value and provide the same level of computing as an equivalent Intel chip, I would consider that a triumph.

It will probably match intels lower end of chips for speed, will be much better for graphics and worse for power consumption. Sadly the days of AMD challenging intel for the higher end consumer chips has long passed.

I would just like it if the cheaper chips were:

At least on a level with power usage.

Match performance in the budget range.

The graphics are a bonus.

Be cheaper.

If that happens I will part with some of my hard earned money.

Sods law that as soon as the processors start coming down in price, the RAM doubles...

Anyway know of any sellers of DDR3 that are unaware of the meteoric price hike?!

Good deal mate, voted cold though: ebuyer send items with YODEL, you have been warned...

The A8 and A10 K processors run well on the Asus F2a85 m or Le motherboard which both support 2400Ghz memory. This gives the Cpu an even better lift in performance. With Xfire set using a £40 graphics card you get 1080p games running fairly well on high settings with 40-50 fps. The GPU can also be overclocked by 20-30% with the right cooling system improving the fps further.

As per my original post, " 28p more on Amazon for those not trusting of Ebuyer" I'd pre-emptively covered that standard response, but thanks for the cold vote regardless!

You don't get the game with Amazon though - hence why this is hot.
