Never been this low nice find

Fantastic find! Heat!

This is an insane price Why the drop? Devils Canyon?

Hahaha people voting cold as it's AMD, corporate puppets.

I would still go with the 8320 and just over clock it to same speed.

Or, go for this and overclock it beyond the 8320 overclocked!

Clearing stocks. Upcoming announcements. 1st July possibly. New boss (well Chief Operating Officer), new Kaveri chips. New roadmap. Plans for x86/ARM integration.

Ps we are killing off FX.

Or the fact it's just not that great a chip all round. Good in highly threaded workloads but not much else.

Wish'd I'd waited when my i5 (which I'm now using again) went briefly tits up and I thought it was permanently knackered I'd bought an A8 for £68 or so and mobo. I'd have snapped this up instead (Now THAT has gone tits up and waiting to be sorted !!!)

Why did you not just RMA the i5? Were you outside your warranty period?

Nah it's pretty good. For what I need it for it's great. I've never thought 'I need an upgrade' with this thing.

Probably. Been more than a year. That said, working now so it was my fault, TBF ! (_;)

ooh tempting ... been keeping an eye on the 8320 for ages ....

Good news they're working on a new x86 architecture, they need it.

Just as well as there isn't an upgrade path.

With Intel chips you get a three year warranty iirc.

Having used amd cpu's exclusively, I see no reason now to choose amd over intel. The gap is just too big, even if it means spending extra. The only thing i hate about intel is there need to change the socket so regularly.

Wasn't aware of that. Still under warranty then !

i have this processor!

Well to be fair to AMD the Athlon 5350 stacks up (IPC) very well against Intels J1900.

My main worry for the general public is now the lines are blurring between CPU and GPU (AMD's top APU's have have 12 compute cores) is when they add ARM to the mix.
So we may end up with something like : 4xCPU (x86) cores, 16x GPU cores, 4x high power ARM cores and 8x low power ARM cores.
How many compute cores is that now!?
Then you have all the different clock speeds for all the different parts!
What rubbish naming will they go with.

Indeed and I've noticed that quite a few Intel CPUs take a while to be put up on Intel Ark, meaning you don't have the full facts about the CPU, which generally means it's a low powered part and no reviews online. Nvidia/AMD/Intel all been up to this confusing naming lark for too long now.

It will be fascinating, you can have an extremely low powered CPU/APU whatever it will be called running processes on ARM and then it can ramp up the power by kicking in x86 when needed for heavy duty desktop applications, that is if the software can cope with that. At first I suspect it's a way of adding compatibility with as many apps as possible.

Passmark isn't a good indicator of CPU performance.

nice find - had the 8320 in my basket to order tomorrow morning, this'll do nicely

I got this deal this week, damn the stock cooler is so noisy, anyone else having the same issue.
plus at idle the temperature is around 45-50 degrees

Yeah AMDs stock cooler is rubbish. Grab a Hyper 212.

Overclock this and get a real Vesuvius juice hog. (big heat + much power).

forgot how hot these get, really considering jumping on intel just to avoid the heat, what temps can you get with h100i?

Er no I am not, Passmark are. I just entered the number into cpu benchmark as I find it to be a pretty good indicator. Not perfect but good.

Personally, and I made this decision about 2 weeks ago - I would rather go for an i5 - around the same price range and in my opinion a better all round chip .... but this is a good chip and I would be happy (?!) to have this too.

Price has gone back up to £132
