Please be gentle as this is my first deal. Anyway saw this on Ebuyer and thought it was a good price the next cheapest seems to be £76.85 @ Scan. Also there are some of these cpu's which can be unlocked to quad core but that is down to luck if you get one or not.

if only i had some extra cash

my hubby bought me this when he built me a comp! really happy with it¬!

Can anyone suggest a good Motherboard to go with this?

Excellent deal. This is the 'Black Edition' which allows easy overclocking - I pushed the clock speed up 25% without needing to mess about with overvoltage etc. Plus depending on your motherboard you might be able to unlock 2 cores to make this a quad core processor (many of the X2's are actually X4's that have had two of their cores lopped off.

Look at the user reviews on the ebuyer site, there are plenty of people who have posted which motherboards work best with this processor

As was mentioned previously, Can anyone suggest a good, BUDGET motherboard to go with this?

I have the phenom x2 555. Ive got a gigabyte 785gmt ud2h motherboard. Its cheap, has good reviews and has integrated gfx capable of playing hd content. Couldnt reccommend it enough

I've got this running in my current PC. Never once had a hint of slowdown no matter what I do

These are good value chips, however it seems that less and less are now unlocking succesfully.

You could look at this board: GA-MA770T-UD3P
benchmarkreviews.com/ind…=69
It has ACC which allows you to to unlock 4 cores with ease and is prepared for extra wattage and bear in mind it is an AM3 cpu so although it is backward compatible with AM2 board you will only have use of DDR2 MEMORY so basically if you are going to buy this cpu you should pay a little extra and get AM3 board that uses DDR3 MEMORY
AROUND £70 advancetec.co.uk/aca…tml

Nice Mobo, but will set you back at least £80. Obviously if you have the budget...

Do you plan on using DDR2 or DDR3 memory?

does anyone know is it much better than AMD X3 2.9 GHz?

I think the X3 is faster ... But this could be overclocked more if you had the right kit ..

the one to go for is amd 555 most of these are quad core. But have been disabled.with the right motherboard you can unlock the other 2 cores.

Well it is only about £9 more expensive solid overclocker(potential 4x cores at 3.7ghz) bigger cache, you can unlock all cores on both but i think some people have had stability issues overclocking AMD X3 - To be honest you could discuss this all day and obviously there are bigger and better all singing and dancing cpu's out there but we are talking about a cpu for less than £70 here so in that respect it is an excellent cpu

Have you seen the 6 Core AMD's are available to order now ?!

if your after a good budget-ish mobo do a search for the-
Asus M4A785TD-M Evo AMD 785G (Socket AM3) DDR3 microATX Motherboard

price roughly £70

the onboard graphics are decent enough , has hdmi and combined with that processor is fast enough for blu-ray/media playback easily. is backwards compatible with alot of older cpus as well .. plus takes ddr2 + ddr3 memory ( although you cant mix them )

edit

Me too, great board! No joy unlocking the two other cores on my Phenom BE 550 though
Did get it up to a solid 3.8 GHz with an aftermarket cooler though!

The Athlon II X3 435 is around 20-25% faster: than this behardware.com/art…tml

This is a fairly specialised deal as neither the performance or power consumption of this processor is great, an Athlon II X3 440 is faster at the same price in most things, so one for the overclockers who want the unlocked multiplier only.
