Yer it trades blows with the i7 7600k.

Are these any good in servers? Unraid to be exact? Might try running blue iris in a windows vm to get 2 24hr running base units into 1, not sure my current i5 will cut it.

and that worked with a ryzen 3 3100 out of the box? i was looking at that one but a lot of the comments say it needs to be updated first

Haven't tried it - but the website seems to suggest so, although it may depend on the BIOS firmware of the motherboard thats delivered gigabyte.com/uk/…ort shows support requires BIOS F40 and that was released mid2019 so imagine all new boards will have it

Should be good I think (I used a 3600).... but.... this will take you a long time to setup and you've got to have the right hardware. Research the motherboard and gpu options heavily.... the instruction list for setting up my Linux box with Window 10 vm + 780TI passthrough is about 5 pages of A4 long....

Long story short... don't do this to save money - you won't! Perhaps do it to save the environment....
AM4 motherboard comparison put together by someone from reddit, quite useful:

i'm looking to buy a bundle from a store like AWT-IT as then they should have upgraded the bios already. want to buy from amazon due to their refund policy but don't want to buy motherboard and chip separately and find not compatable.

I believe if you buy motherboard and CPU together from CCL they will make sure bios is updated, but not 100% sure.
Excellent video here:
This is .better value than the 3300x .. in that one you only get ONE ccx , in this you get two CCX. More CPU for LESS money, crikey
* there must be something where that helps?
I still have a working I5-2500K

I still have a working i5-2400

R3 3100 is much better value now, when the price gap to 3300x has grown from £15 to like £25 and more. 3300x would give 10% performance gains, while 30% more expensive.

no it makes it worse!

quote from a review..

" AMD splits each CCD into two four-core clusters called Core Complexes (CCX), and the Ryzen 3 3100 has two active cores present on each CCX (2+2). That means it's 16MB of L3 cache is split across two separate slices (2x8MB), which introduces latency, and inter-core latency is higher, too. That slows down latency-sensitive applications, like games and applications with heavy thread dependencies.

In contrast, Ryzen 3 3300X's four cores are resident on a single CCX (4+0), so it has a single 16MB slice of L3 cache and inter-core latency is lower. As you'll see throughout our game suite, that speeds up performance tremendously. We'll also dive into a few cache and mesh latency measurements on the following page. "
This or a 5 2600? That's the CPU I've had on my to buy list for a while

ive had the same dilemma and from benchmarks and reviews theres very little in it. some games and applications are better with one...some with the other... think it really depends on whether youre more likely to use something that uses multiple cores... i was leaning towards the 3100 personally as at the moment its around £20 cheaper on average..

If you can't decide between those 2, maybe you should look at R5 1600, nice motherboard system on eBay for 230ish, with 16gb ram and Asus mobo included.
the 1600 or 1600af? found the 1600af to be a bit dearer or out of stock. the 2600 is slightly faster than both. people seem to have gotten excited about the 1600af and drove the price up and neglected the 2600.

seen the bundle for £230 from cclcomputers for a regular 1600. the 3100 bundle i put together on their website pretty much comes to the same price. the 3100 should work out a bit better than a standard 1600 really.

There won't be any stock of regular non F on the market any more, it's pretty much 12nm only.
fair enough. it doesnt mention the serial number so they could have been trying to shift some old stock. looks like theyve got quite a few bundles listed. they seem like the same price as on their website, probably best to just pick the parts on the website direct to be on the safe side. would be annoying to receive the last 1600 theyve found gathering dust on a shelf!

There were reports that people were receiving AF version only for good few months. Check on CCL website what versions are in stock.

PS if you're lucky and find £10 off code on ebay app then it's even better deal
