How fast is this compared to an old CPU like the i7 3770k ?

It's an APU, cpu with built in gpu. It's not even Zen 2, I believe it is mainly for a small cheap systems with out dedicated gpu. It's not very fast, I wouldn't upgrade from 3770k to this. 1600af will be better...

Says 2nd gen on the specs. However in reality minimum nowadays is 6 core 12 threads so all the computer www reckon. Saying that my system is a antique.
Ryzen 3600 is the one to go for

Usually these processors are only worth it if you don’t have a graphics card. If you have a graphics card already I’d go for a better processor

Incorrect mate to many but a good pick.

£65 pound difference between a 1600af and 3600..

Theres £65 pound difference between a 1660s and a decent 5600xt/2060

Also theres £65 difference between a RX580 and a 1660s

# clear winner 1600AF.. for budget folks upto 5700 levels.

3200G is a great way of getting a PC u can use without the cost of a GPU.. then u can add one laters, lack of performance of 4core 4 thread cPu system comparable to a ryzen 5 6c 12tread is minimal. Mangibale and workable for many folks on limited budget, kids first time PC buyers splitting the cost over multiable paydays it's an excellent outstanding CPU for exactly that,

Ram choice is key 2666mhz is bare min sweetspot 3000/3200mhz..

Ram mhz on a system using this is where this ram mhz debate exists.. as this cpu is where it DOES matter so much it'll bleeding haunt you then any other cpu.

2200G when paired with a good GPU was surprisingly potent in games, it's got a fairly good single thread rating - Had it in to BIOS update an x470 to Zen 2 and decided to benchmark it in a few different games.
But if using a discrete GPU it makes no sense to choose this over a 1600 or 2600.

Second gen doesn't mean Zen 2, it is a bit confusing... this cpu still use older architecture

2nd gen is Zen+. 3rd gen is Zen 2. Even though it's a 3000 series it's Zen+ like the 2000 series. Stupid I know.
I'd wait for a deal on the 1600af or 2600. Miles better performance for not much more.

If your gonna game just get a 3900x, don't compromise. Shuddering at the news of the next big game, and going through that lame cenario of '' will my CPU run this'', is just so 90's.

doubly so with the APU's but to clarify for others:
Ryzen CPU's releases are 1000 Zen, 2000 Zen+ (Zen refined), 3000 Zen 2, 4000 Zen 3 (expected Q2)
Ryzen APU's releases are 2000 Zen, 3000 Zen+, 4000 Zen 2 (OEM's demo'ing)

Clear winner would be dependent on what your aim is and if it fulfils that aim. If the aim and target is a SFF, for example, then pairing this APU with an ASRock A300 (not much larger than your hand) then this APU would be the clear winner (even SODIMM'S are nolonger silly in pricing).
My idea to transition from my old system to new is to buy a reasonable motherboard and a cheap CPU, then flog the old system and use the money to upgrade.

By the way I already have an m.2 nvme drive, ddr4 ram and a 1060 6g gpu

I'm still on a gigabyte ds3 socket 1156. Fine for browsing. Don't game or Photoshop any more.
Have to say I'm running a Ryzen 3 1200 in my desktop system and it seems to cope with pretty much anything I've thrown at it.

It's paired with an MSI GeForce 1050.

Very impressed with this low cost setup.
