This is from @sarden84 's other thread the other day.
All CCL stock is AF, and has been for quite sometime. So yes, this is a good price for an entry level 6c/12t CPU.

As cheap as buying used great value for money might even get sent the 12nm one
In fact, it would seem, this is just CCL trying to dump old stuff on people thinking its the new one.
Not sure as saying more due in stock tomorrow

Q: is this the AF or AE CPU?
Answer by Website User on 9th January 2020
I got the AF when I ordered from ccl 2 weeks ago.

I received one from them last week and it was the AF version. The week before they were temporarily out of stock: given they must’ve therefore restocked, and unless they’ve sourced from a different disti a load of really old stock that predates AMD moving the 1600 across to Zen+ (unlikely), I think people can be pretty confident they’ll get an AF version from CCL going forward.

Its still a good price for the 1600.
Obviously you want the newer version but that's a bargain as opposed to the older ones being a bad deal.

Check the alternative part number.

Wow so this is a 2600 equivalent cpu for 85 quid...bargain! Love what AMD are doing...
Great chip, been using it for a year or so. Overclock it to 3.7 and you good to go. Brilliant. Bought it at double the price.
Thanks, ordered one. Have been looking at either a 5 2600 or a 7 2700. For the price difference, I'll take the 12nm 5 1600 and can live with the relatively small performance drop. Bizarre that AMD have refreshed the 1600 without even re-branding it. Essentially the new 1600 is a 2000+ in all but name as far as I can tell.

Wasn't even aware they had done this. Seems really odd move like if they are going to refresh the range why not the 1700/1800 that would presumably benefit more with the extra cores, whats so special about the 1600 that it deserves a refresh years after release but none of the other 1000 series do?

Weird choice by AMD but bargain if it really gets close to the 2600...

Is it weird, or is it a clever move to ensure that they can't be beaten at the sub $100 price point?

It's hard to argue against a CPU of this value, with a huge catalogue of potential upgrades if you wanted to stay on the same platform in the future. Paired with a value B450 board, you could put in a 2xxx/3xxx or even a 4xxx CPU isn't that the selling point. You see it all of the time now, with people trying to eek out every last ounce of their system going from a 4570K to a 4770K/4790K so they aren't forced to swap systems, but with AMD they'll get a new CPU sale where as Intel ends up not seeing any more money, as it is all second hand gear now.
Should I buy this 1600AF over a 2600 (won't be OCing), or are there advantages to 2600? About £30 cheaper.

Will be used 90% of time for Excel / browsing, but once in a while for gaming (mainly RTS / strategy - not bothered about very highest settings).

Will be on mini-ITX B450 board, probably with a 1660 or 1660 Super.

Thanks!

AFAIK it's basically for old order fulfillment without actually keeping the 1600 fabrication open for longer. Still a bit strange, but who knows what deals they have with OEMs.

I checked the advertised manufacturer number and all other codes and ALL are for the original 1600 and not the AF. It would seem either you received the better one accidently, unless CCL are using incorrect information on a sales advertisement.....

Thennwhy are they using only codes for the original? Why are they not advertising it as the New AF? Seems a little odd for a xompany to use, not only, the wrong manufacturer codes but also to pretend it is a 2yr old part.... i feel your ststement is incorrect as NO computer parts retailer is that nice, or that stupid as to use false numbers.
So enjoying all those telling us that CCL have just been sending out more expensive parts in 'just good nature'....all the while advertising it using manufacturers numbers of the old chip....AND not advertising it as the newer 12nm chip...but your all right, CCL are just so unbelievably generous and stupid.
39721939-9J78c.jpgThese are the manufacturer codes and designations of the 3yr old 1600 not the 1600AF. Just for all those saying 'oh no, CCL are just giving away more expensive parts for free'.
Why would they need to advertise it anyway? It's the exact same part in marketing terms. I'd guess the majority of people buying them around the world will probably never know. They're ordering a Ryzen 5 1600 and will get a Ryzen 5 1600. Weird take.

Can I sell you a car btw....I'll advertise it as a 2017 mondeo but, honestly, I'll deliver a 2020.

Makes sense, don't want to keep the production line open, it is probably cheaper to can the 1600 production line and divert 2000 chips to re-labelled as 1600s.
This has been confirmed by CCL that all 1600 being sold from now onwards is AF, from an Account manager, and then few days later a sales adviser also confirmed to follow up the same response.

Fair play...still seems odd they are using the old manufacturer code....and dont promote the fact they are AF.... being it is based on a completely different product being 12nm 2000 series fabrication and not the 14nm of the original. All it shares is the name...
Apology accepted.
Another CCL 1600 arrived this morning.

Have you considered sending them extra money? I really think you ought to.
Amazon seelling 1600 for 89 now from a third party. Wonder if they are the new ones too?!
