Spoken to CCL recently who stated they haven't got any of the "AE" instock when purchasing my self... but im not permitted to state under ukhotdeals terms and conditions that CCL is only selling the "AF" version on here, as the website links to a AE model.

# call up to confirm yourself which one, and if the required version u desire matches, buy it.

23% uplift in Base CPU costs, for less than 5% increase in performance? My good sir , your grasp of the fundamentals of this site is surely lacking ...

Read the post description, it is but you ain't seen it right, shhh.
Bought one recently and it was the AF version. Might not be able to say in the post, but I can tell you it will definitely be the AF version
Mine arrived the other day for about £83 with the eBay code. Was the AF as we know they are from CCL.

Just now waiting on some PSU extension cables as the Sahara case is a bit too big!

Depend on your motherboard and also the CPU. These chips should be able to do more than 3.9. Mine sits at 4GHz at 1.3v

I'm looking to build a budget gaming PC for my son's birthday.
Struggling to find one for the £500 I have to spend (including a monitor and peripherals)
Been keeping an eye out for good quality parts and appreciate all the recent posts by Sarden84.
I've not built a pc since the late 90's/early noughties.
So given the changes in technology since then I would consider myself a complete newbie.
So far I have decided upon the rx580 GPU and I am considering purchasing this processor too.
I'd like some advice on a suitable motherboard and recommended ram to run it also,
If any of you guys would be so kind or any suggestions on a built or partially built system within budget would be even better
Looking at something with a Ryzen 5 6 core CPU, 16gb ddr4 faster the better and good gpu, something like the rx580. Thanks in advance guys! Any help and advice much appreciated.

With the spec mentioned and including a monitor You won't fit in 500 budget.
Starting to come to that conclusion myself
Think my Son has given me an impossible mission, given the current budget.
So it looks like he'll be using his old monitor for the time being.
I bought this cpu when it was new going for around £200+ (bought for £155 off ebay new tho). Its a really good CPU and using this with a MSI x370 gaming plus i had bought for new with MSI cash back for around £85. Have over clocked the CPU to 3.825GHZ using the stock cooler. works really well and easy to do.

May upgrade to the new 3 series ryzen when they fall sharply, works on my x370 boards too. Not in any rush at this is more than enough.
nice feed back on the above old item, but i can tell u this isnt the one u got, extra bonus.... yes ive had to be a wee bit crafty to get this listed and not break any T/C and state something it isnt being pointed at correctly, but we all know what this CPU link is, its down to the new buyers to trust the regs..
Just had my cpu delivered from ebay cclonline shop, used the 10% off code and YES its the AF version

Msi b450m mortar with the latest bios. Cryorig h7 (although not running too cool either) 3.9ghz stabilised at 1.35v and i can't stabilise 4ghz even at 1.425 (not going to try higher because it's hot and i wouldn't i leave it running at this voltage anyway) i guess i just lost the silicon lottery 😋
the af version is the new 1600, they dont sell the og one so the af one is the only one they have in stock for new 1600s

Have you set the ram to stock speeds and overclock the CPU alone? Also those NB voltages etc need to be bumped up for stability. LLC should be set. I got mine sitting at L2 on CPU and NB. As I found L1 gives too much over shoot. If you are doing 1.4V I would probably set L3. Mind you are u able to boot into windows at all with say 1.4V and 4GHz?
This + 16GB RAM + Mortar Max is a super solid foundation for a new system. Crazy how much oomf that gets you for such a reasonable outlay. Add a refurb RX 580, that 1TB WD Blue NVME drive...

Depending on the games he's going to be playing you may be able to pick say a R3 3200G or the R5 3400g built in graphics. Coupled with a b450 mobo around 70 quid, plus 16gb DDR4 around 70 quid aswel. You could be under the 500 and chuck a graphics card in at a later date.

Have a look on youtube for Random Gaming in HD and search there, sure he's tested the 3200g for gaming.

Just make sure that the old monitor isn't VGA as most new graphics cards won't support it.
You could also output to most TV's over HDMI although not a perfect solution it would do for the short term.
Amazon seem to have a lot of return motherboards to suit Ryzen in their warehouse which keeps costs down. The £99 refurb RX580 would also go a long way to sticking under your £500 budget.
If you have an old PC you could probably reuse the case and optical drives.

Same here, also bought it from eBay/CCL for same price, I emailed them to confirm and they did say AF version as well. Took delivery on Friday and installed over weekend, definitely says 12nm (AF) rather than the 14nm (AE) in CPU-Z.

Thanks for the advice Matt.
I'm currently doing a lot of research into it and although he has been very specific as to what he needs (wants) I am looking into other alternatives. As the budget won't stretch to his demands!

That's pretty unlucky, most people seem to be getting atleast 4.0 at ~ 1.35V.

It is in fact VGA. So he'll have to use his TV for now, as you suggested Maggy.
As for the previous pc it's being used by the younger ones for general homework etc.
So I don't think I will be allowed to strip it down for parts.
Thanks for the advice all the same Maggy
AMD don't have 14mn wafers for the Original Ryzen 1000 series anymore.

All new 1600 & and 1200 will be AF versions 12mn.
Always check for the AF version, But it probably be the AF 12 MN version you will get.

Yes there are 1200 AF Versions : tomshardware.com/new…ion

The performance/pound (or dollar/whatever) is insanely great for this (refreshed) Ryzen 5 1600, phenomenal amount of processing power for this little money!

Great deal @sarden84

1600x uses chips that are better binned because its being forced to run at higher clocks out of the box so not surprised yours can do it.
