I have been looking at building a gaming rig around this CPU and noticed the price had gone down on Amazon. Seems like an excellent deal to to me....but can't bite myself until GPU prices come down.

Absolutely not. It was a very poor attempt at stock manipulation, once you've given full admin access to your machine, or allow for bios reflashes, every kind of system is compromised.

I still can't find a reason to upgrade my i5 2500K, Nothing wrong with older tech, Especially that none of the big two have reason to upgrade there GPU's, I'm still running a HD7970 with that which still plays most stuff at 1080p, I'll upgrade the GPU when the prices are more sensible again which will probably play just about anything, even with the old 2500K.

I am looking at these too. The 2000 series chips are out later in the month so this should come down more. Think I’ll buy a cheap 1600 then get a Zen2 3000 series next April.

What board are you going with for this ?
Good price I'm looking at getting this but want to snag a cheapish 1060 6gb or 1070 first.

I'm going to wait a couple of weeks until they release the B450 boards. They will be about the same price as current B350 but have a couple of extra features. I like the look of the MSI Tomahawk Arctic but they are all about the same, just go for the one you like the look of. Managed to order 16gb DDR 3000mhz for just £114 the other week too 🏼

B450, the board many Ryzen fans assumed wouldn't be needed since the current series should last till 2020 ;-).

Of course Ryzen and AMD will be updating their motherboards constantly, just like Intel. I can't wait for Ryzen 2 to come out and hear just how mediocre the previous series motherboards are for Ryzen 2, and how you should probably just get a new motherboard.

This being a deals site where we all try to save a few quid, I can't really see the problem with an older chipset/CPU socket maintaining future compatibility with newer-generation processors.

This could lead to buyers being able to save even more money due to not needing to replace hardware they already own that is perfectly adequate or, it may leave people with the option to choose the last gen motherboard at a discount (used or new) to use with the newer processors if they don't need any of the new features added to forthcoming chipsets.

Other people like McTabish also have the option to wait for the newer stuff, just as they've stated.

I think digging out "Ryzen fans" would be better suited to some tech fanboy forum, leaving the rest of to us save a couple of quid in peace.

Yeah that's a good point. I am going to wait as for the sake of 3 weeks I get a new generation with a couple of features. But I will certainly keep that board for as long as I can. The way components last and are only small iterations these days, you can buy now and normally skip 2 or 3 generations without falling too far behind. Then enjoy the jump when you pick up your AM5 or AM6 board.

Maybe 260 for the 1060 and 360 for the 1070 I've been checking the nvidia website and if I see a msrp priced card I want pop up I may buy it.

Sure, this is a deals website, but it is also worth noting that a 'future semi compatible motherboard' may be a bad purchase if you are thinking 'I can get this cheap and upgrade to Ryzen 2 later'.

Surely it's worth pointing out that AMD made a statement that their current gen motherboard would be compatible til 2020, but they are actually releasing a new motherboard series with the next gen Ryzen, suggesting some level of disconnect in technology. Very similar to their AM3 AM3+ boards, where you could use old motherboards with new CPUs, but it was at the cost of features.

Leaked Amazon pre-order prices are apparently going to be 2600 about £150+VAT, £180.
All contrived from $ pretax prices.

Still makes this a decent deal for budget concious people as always, the next best is always a wee bit more and round teh corner.
Just need DDR4 proves to drop £150 for 16gb is nuts!

NO you shouldn't as those flaws need an admin access to machine already. Which means someone would already need to be in your machine with admin rights to use those exploits which at point their already in your machine and got admin rights.

I have this on order too... Also still waiting on some DDR4 from November on Amazon... One might turn up
timessquaregt5th Apr

Same

Yeah same here. I think (if I was Amazon) they maybe priced them in error (maybe automatically even). So they will restock but hold off on updating the stock levels online. After a while people who actually need the RAM might just cancel the order and buy an alternative. Then once the hit becomes lower for Amazon they may fulfill the smaller number of remaining orders and then create a few advocates that these deals are actually legit. That is what I would do. You don't want to sell a £170 Ram kit for £55 less.... but likewise you don't want stock sitting in a warehouse forever.

As someone who has being paying attention to used GPU prices, I think if the card is for yourself;
1060 6gb at 220ish is a good price
1070 at 330ish.

Don't knock previous gen cards either!

Zero. Ram is in higher demand than it ever has been thanks to smartphones using it smartphone manufacturers buying massive swatches of production & getting higher priority than standalone ram production.

Nope.

We are still 2 weeks away for the 2000 series to release. I have never bought a new CPU before (am always a gen behind when I buy). I currently have a i7 4790K which I bought about 3 years ago. How much of an upgrade are we thinking the Ryzen 2600 is going to be over the 1600?

I mainly play games on my PC. So if it's only going to be a few FPS I might as well just go with the 1600 and overclock it.

So are you suggesting that Ryzen motherboards should just stay as the original spec and not move forwards? “Semi” compatible as you put it is better than not compatible. My B350 will run Ryzen 2 and probably Ryzen 3. If I miss “features” so be it. Maybe there will be USB4 or a faster SATA port that I don’t really need, or support for faster memory. All great, but I can upgrade at my own speed rather than buy everything new.

Changes are minimal. Just needs slight update in bios, so B350 boards still fine for Ryzen 2 as well.

For starts, I'm not suggesting that they should stay at the original spec. People are using this as some unique selling point.

'Compatible till 2020'. That's less than 2 from now (and effectively less than 3 from the start) and they specifically are saying Ryzen 3 is in '2020'.

Here's a similar statement that is true and equivalent.

Z170 motherboards will be supported for 3 years.

Z170 came out in 2015 and supported Intel CPUs until 2018.

Ryzen came out in 2017 and will support AMD CPUs until 2020.

What's the difference? This isn't some magical new thing that no one has done before. It's standard practice and NOTHING special.

I knew before watching that you linked an AdoredTV video. The man is the number one defender of all things AMD. I've not seen him mention one positive item about NVIDIA, Intel, or anyone that isn't AMD.

He's been banned from Reddit's /r/hardware sub for various reasons, not only limited to person threats, but other various issues with his 'videos'. reddit.com/r/h…nse

I've seen him make bold faced lies in videos and defend his position to the gills, with vitriol, personally. He's as bias as a review can get.

I challenge you to find one review of an intel product that is positive from his last 3 years.

I will not get anything from aria i bought a lot of my parts from there for my build had to send motherboard back to be told there was no faults with it so had to pay £18 to get it back to have the same problem with it but they customer support is one of the worst I have ever experienced.

“Trying to save a few quid” doesn’t have to mean “cutting corners”, or “going for a cheaper/worse option that will ultimately cost you more in the long run”

It just means finding what you want, for less.
Is it worth it to get this to upgrade from an i5 4690? I have a gtx 970 and Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1 both really badly stutter and I always have 100% cpu useage. It's the main reason I don't play either game anymore.

I personally can't see why would you want to upgrade your current system, its still very capable and can be easily overclocked to match it with today's cpu stock speeds.
In terms of gaming don't think that Ryzen will offer you any noticeable difference or any at all, unless you do some heavy live streams and running tons of other softs in background at same time.
About Ryzen second gen don't expect to much as there hasn't been any significant changes in tech, most likely there will be minor tweaks with added new features that casual user probable will never use.
