This is getting silly.
The 2600 would give an i7 7700k a run for its money in overall performance, and the Intel chip is still for sale at £300+. That's a lot of bang for your buck.

So this is a good alternative if I was looking at an i5 8400? - I don't game very much at all but do video editing so cpu grunt is welcomed. Does it have built in gpu?
I'm totally out the loop on AMD.

I believe it will need a gpu, the ones with a 'g' on the end have the integrated graphics.

For pructivity there is nothing better value than ryzen 2600 at the moment. Obviously ryzen 3600 is the king but costs £80 more.

These dont come with inbuilt gpu and you will need a graphics card with it. Just get a cheap rx570.

No 3600 is king of general purpose (gaming, everyday use, streaming, etc) on a price/performance ratio.

The higher chips are still better for productivity things such as video editing etc as the additional cores will aid it. Threadripper is still coming too!

No, I mean streaming as in twitch while playing CPU intensive games, these people also generally create content on YouTube etc.
For gaming at 1440p should I go for the 2700 or the 3600? I know that 1440p is heavily reliant on the gpu so don't want to spend to lots on the cpu. What's the best bang-for-buck?

I would say 3600 as u could save some money by going for the 2600 but again the new chip is about 30% faster so nothing short of amazing.

Very tempted to jump on this to replace an i5 4690k. Hmm do I really need it...
Got a 2600 and a gt 1030, (not a gaming machine) for £170 a while back and love it. Cpu barley goes over 5% even with multiple chrome tabs and videos. Combine with a m2 nvme drive and you have a brilliant quick machine that can handle everything. Of course if you want to play games you could spend double on the gpu. But for £60 I was happy with the gt 1030. Currently playing witcher 2 on many high / ultra settings 60fps. Overall if you want a great future proof machine this is a perfect cpu and best value on the market. Think the 3600 is 15% faster but at a 85% high cost

With a decent motherboard the 2600 is easily oveclockable too 4ghz with stock cooler. I'm a complete novice but amds software makes it easy and safe to try overclocks

No gpu, but much better for productivity and you can just use a motherboard with an integrated gpu I believe, eliminating the need for any sort of gpu.
Picked one up. Now I need to look for a mobo and ram. Probably a new case wouldn't go amiss. What have I started

Well of course, you can't replace the CPU and motherboard with out getting a new case. I'm in the same boat lol

The 8400 would be better for gaming (single core performance) but the 2600 would be better for everything else, like video editing, but still absolutely fine for gaming. No, the 2600 does not have an integrated GPU, but if you're into video editing, then you'd want a discreate GPU anyway.
I'm currently thinking about a mid range gaming pc/htpc mainly used for madvr and 4k movies hooked up to my Q9FN. Would this be a good chip coupled with a decently priced GPU like the Vega 56?
Will chips be reduced on Prime day? Isn't the 3600 a lot better for £190?

The 3600 costs 50% more than this but certainly isn't 50% faster.

Let me know what you do.

I use the 4690k devils canyon as well and I am stuck for what to upgrade too..

Jump off the Intel bandwagon or stay inside it, choices choices.

A perfect match, I use this site to check for bottlenecks pc-builds.com/cal…or/ it pairs well with graphics cards around that range.
I bought a ryzen 2600 from the amazon warehouse used very good condition £110 on Thursday. It arrived today and I saw this price . The cooler has no thermal paste so I had to purchase some . I mentioned this in chat and they gave me 20% off, happy again

This is insane, I'm building my 3700x machine now but would be half tempted to grab this and a cheapo am4 board for another little build for my nephew, to upgrade his 2500k.

My understanding is different.

Motherboards themselves do not have integrated GPUs. Even if the IO might have some form of video output, there is no inbuilt GPU. Instead, you need either a dedicated GPU or a Ryzen APU (=CPU with internal GPU).

Go for the cheaper CPU and spend more on GPU. I have a 1080 with the 2600 and cpu is not a bottleneck
