Higher speeds, more memory, and wider bandwidth than the previous generation. 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen™ processors with the 7nm “Zen 2” core sets the standard for high performance: exclusive manufacturing technology, historic on-chip throughput, and revolutionary overall performance for gaming. From the beginning AMD’s 3rd Gen Ryzen™ processors were designed with this philosophy, to break expectations and set a new standard for high-performance gaming processors. That’s exactly what it does.

New Zen 2 Architecture

The new PCIe 4.0 standard DOUBLES the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 to up to 2GB/s per lane, or up to 32 GB/s on a x16 slot, enabling new generations of high-performance graphics cards, networking devices, NVMe drives, ethernet cards and more.

AMD Socket AM4 Compatibility

AMD Ryzen™ 3000 Series Desktop processors are compatible with all 500 Series motherboards out-of-the box, and are compatible with 400 Series and A320 motherboards when a compatible BIOS update has been installed. Please visit the manufacturer’s website for your motherboard to verify support for your processor model, and for guidance on the BIOS update procedure(s). Motherboards with packaging featuring the above logo are compatible without requiring a BIOS update.

Small and Silent

Included with this AMD Ryzen™ 5 3600 processor is AMD's Wraith Stealth cooler, capable of cooling with ease with a low profile and quiet acoustics too!

The 3600s have a lot of hype (rightly so, I have one) but consider the 2700x

It's £141 on the same store with this code

Comes with Borderlands or Outer Worlds (this does not)
Comes with a wraith prism cooler made by coolermaster with copper fittings (miiiles better than the sealth with this, which is awful)
The prism is worth £25-30 on ebay
The stealth is £5

So I'd reccomend checking the 2700x, it performs just as well as a 3600 in most cases, or is 5-10% slower at worst.
Ridiculous. This + £50 16gb ram from other deal and a b450 , you're bloody set.
Unreal price for performance

Can't believe how cheap this is. Paid £160ish only a month ago

If you're looking for a new CPU, buy this now. I paid about £200 in July last year and I was impressed in the price to performance then
This keeps going lower, any reason why?

Because AMD... We're so used to Intel prices. And eBay have codes every few hours it seems.

Not as good in gaming though.

I've just checked via Chrome on a laptop and was able to go through with the purchase.
I can't even see this for £160 as this post suggests. This grab is from clicking the Get This Deal button. I can't add the Pamper14 code either, checkout says it can't be added to this order.

tried in on my phone too: same result

Got it sorted. I was registered with EBAY.COM not Ebay,co.uk

What does this mean though?

Basically it means if you get 134 frames on a 3600 OCd you'll get 129 on the 2700x. It won't affect real world perf.

At low frames, say 55fps, the difference is negligible. Bear in mind, the 2700x can often post higher 1% lows too.

What I think the user will notice is the cooler, quiet and longevity of the chip. Plus, you get a free game and £35 off
Absolute steal, greatest price performance CPU by far.

There are still games where a decent FPS gain can be and the TDP of the 3600 is quite a bit lower (65w compared to 105w on the 2700x). I get the game bonus but not a personal interest to me and when they're the same price (the CPUs), I'd rather go for the one that has better gaming performance as I don't need 8 cores. The 3600 will still be a good CPU to have in a few years.

Where can you get the 2700x for £108?

My mistake, thought this was the 3600x post I commented on, take it back, sorry dude too many tabs!

Yes indeed, same price. Better cooler on the 2700x by a mile and a game you can sell on ebay for £15. So I guess for some that's worth it, others want the tad better performance in gaming. I'd personally go 2700x here, having already gone 3600 and experienced the dire cooler, knowing you'll almost always end up spending that extra £20 for a new one.

No worries, we all make mistakes I've said recently that the 2700x is also incredibly well priced and would make a great budget home server CPU. I don't use the stock 3600 cooler, I use a hyper 212 Evo with an adapter.

Yeah same I wouldn't use stock on this, just think folks buying should know the 3rd gen coolers aint like the 2nd gens.

The stock cooler, even the gimped version, is perfectly fine for the 3600.

It's OK, I've had it.

Mine made a really annoying whirring noise, and trust me I have a 5700 XT blower so I'm not noise sensitive. It was high pitched and awful, a quick google shows this is common. It even did it on idle.

If you want to OC, which gets you to 3600x performance (a nice 8-10% climb) you absolutely need a better cooler.
Great for Plex as well
this has now gone up to £173.81 before the pamper14 discount code
Prices for this vendor are up and down, don't stick for more than 5 mins. Back up at £173 now.
How does this compare to a i5 9600K?

Same but different :P

An overclocked 9600k will be better in games that run on few threads but the 3600 is better or no worse in games that run more.

Noting the 9600k is a 6 core 6 thread part when the 3600 is a 6 core 12 thread part.

Basically if you are playing slightly older games most of the time the 9600k is the best option when the 3600 is a slight compromise that cannot lead to buyers remorse :P

The 65W tdp on 3600 is a lie. In reality is 100+

It's because it's AMD as rev6 as already mentioned but it's also a clever trick by AMD to get people on the red bandwagon. Once you buy an AMD motherboard, you're next cpu upgrade will probably be another AMD one.

Intel really took the mick with new sockets too.
Worth upgrading from the 1600 ?
buy the 2700x if you need the better CPU cooler, if not then buy this - I have this and it's bloody awesome

One of my reasons for jumping ship to AMD. Hated Intel for the constant switching to motherboards.

TDP and power consumption are two different things.
