This isn't even a good offer price has been this for a few days and 159ish for the last week. 2 weeks ago was around the 153 price range with it lowering to 150 quite often on other sites like eBay Currys.

Yeah I remember seeing this at £150 few weeks back. I’m still waiting for this to drop back to that price before biting the bullet
Anyone recommend a motherboard for this for video editing must have more than two RAM slots. Cheers
thought the XT refresh was due out any day

Might be worth waiting for the B550 boards coming next week. Even if you don’t want the latest B chipset, previous generation pricing may fall slightly.

Yeah I read that too, is it replacing the 3600X?

It's the 3600, 3800 and 3900 that are getting XT variants
I got mine from currys, only because they paid me back for a case i'd bought and the manufacturer couldn't supply, a Kolink Sanctuary micro, was waiting for an r3 3300x but opted for the 3600 as with the cash i got back it worked out the same price, just finished the build and am well impressed. I thought my 2600 was cool but the 3600 is very impressive.
Not a particularly good deal, my time machine tells me I could have bought it cheaper previously and likely to get it cheaper in the future.

B450 tomahawk max that's what I'm ordering with my 3600. It's about as good as you can get in the b450 without paying silly money for useless features. Google it and see all the good reviews.

That doesn't make it a good deal. New chips aren't far off either. Seems like a bad time to be buying unless you absolutely need to. If you can't wait why not settle for a 2600 or 1600 AF in the meantime as they're much more reasonably priced.

Isn’t the 1600AF meant to retail for £85, it’s up around £115 at the moment. Not sure that’s a very good buy personally.

You can find it for less if you’re lucky. The point is it’s a solid 6C/12T CPU as is the 2600. If you needed something to tide you over then it’s probably the best bet as even at just over £100 it’s not a bad buy.

I was about to say, I've been on amazon pretty much every day for the past week or two waiting for this to drop and its been the same price for a while.

Same. It has actually been lower but not low enough for me, so I settled on a 2600 for £112 until everything calms down a bit.
Was considering this but looking at purely gaming benchmarks (which is all I use my PC for, no productivity type work at all) it doesn't make sense to get a new MB and this over my current I5-8400 when I game at 1800p

Gonna keep my powder dry till the 4000s come out

have you tried any Euro Amazons?
Can sometimes be quite an eye opener with the difference in prices .... log in details are always same as UK accounts
Not a good deal and not sure why this has been voted hot.

Can't tell if this is meant to be sarcastic about those pointing out the price has hovered around this for a while. Or those pointing out that new chips are imminent thus this will almost certainly drop. It could be the best deal at the moment by a couple of quid but if its extremely likely to drop in price then prospective purchasers should know about that. It's the sort of info that stops people kicking themselves.

Assume you mean 1080p. You are largely going to be GPU bound at that resolution. What is your GPU ? A new CPU may not massively improve your FPS unless you are at very high refresh rates.

3200x1800

I play on a 4k telly and have a 5700xt so I run at a slightly lower resolution and let Radeon Image Sharpening do it's magic to make it look pretty much indistinguishable from 4k but with better fps

Nope 3200x1800 (1800p) on a 4k telly so only need 60fps max but wondered if a new CPU would help my 1% lows and on CPU hungry stuff like AC but benchmarks say not really

Ah, at that resolution a CPU may help. Particularly in CPU heavy games as you mentioned. You’ve probably got a decent balance with cpu and GPU. Upgrading the GPU further would probably help more at the moment, but there’s probably not a lot in it.
However, you will probably start to see an issue with the lack of cores going forward. 6 with no hyper threading may hamper you in the future. I think you are right. Wait for 4000 series.
4000 series out next month apparently but its still the zen 2 architecture. Is it worth waiting for zen 3 which is out by end of year?

4000 series isn't out next month, just refreshed (exactly the same architecture) 3000 chips with couple of hundred more mhz on the clocks and "XT" stuck at the end coming then.

Good chance with whats going on that these "XT" models will cost more that the current X models too.

They mean 4000-series APUs on Zen 2 as they said, and they are out soon, already coming through on mobile. Zen 3 still isn’t far off but the XT refresh chips should still drop prices a bit.
I've got this and it's as fast as balls

Just a heads up if you do go tomahawk max if your using the stock boxed cooler it blocks the first ram slot so you can't use it, you'd need aftermarket cooling which I'm assuming you'd have for video editing
