Just ordered a AMD Ryzen 5 2600 for just under £140, is this a better deal and processor ?

Depends if a 0.3ghz base clock and two extra physical cores is worth £30 extra to you.

You get in to the well for only an extra £50 i could have, and for an extra £70 and so on

Ill stick with the 2600 its mainly for gaming and it was the cheapest i could get for that price and that spec so it will do
This is still a good deal so added..

Surely a pick and shovel and one of those helmets with a lamp on the front would be better ?
to good, to cheap. And not intel

Too late for the Ponzi pal
Damn this is getting really good now, 8 cores and 16 threads damn. Can get a good overclock on these
just bought it with £139.00.
Hope i can mine a bit with this beast
I don't even have a pc...and i bought it. Thank you Op!
I only have a 550w power supply will that be enough for this and the amd Rx 580
Great CPU, should be able to get about 3.9GHz with boxed cooler.
Fantastic processor only 65w runs very cool, have mine running at 3.75Ghz across all cores at only 1.275v. Ryzen 2 is slightly faster but has a much higher wattage and a lot more expensive, This is a no brainier at this price.

550w is good for all single card GPU setups unless your rocking a dvd, cd, 10 hard drives, media card readers, scanner, printer, 5 USB keys. Well you get the picture.
Great price, can anyone recommend a compatible motherboard?

Idealy a 750w 80% plus psu would be better and quieter ..

This will be fine with your setup. Unless you are running tons of accessories that are drawing core power your 550w PSU will be fine. I have a ryzen 1600, graphics card, ssd, HDD, LED lighting and it's all only drawing around 300W of the 550 PSU in my system

If you’re going to offer advice at least tell the truth and don’t mislead.

I’m running a 1700 @ 3.7Ghz across all cores, 1080GTX, 24GB RAM, 3 HDs, Optical and about 8 fans inc CPU and case. I’m pulling 300W from the wall with GPU at 100% load.

PSU efficiency sweet spots are about 50% load. This would be marginally over on a 550W but far from the 80% zone where inefficiency kicks in.
Just got this Ryzen 1700 on the recent GearBest deal and it's great. Eight cores, 16 threads, and was easy to overclock on the stock RGB cooler to 3.7Ghz with +0.1v offset (1.28v). Didn't get it primarily for gaming but it scores ~14 seconds per turn on the CIV VI AI benchmark, which is very good. Ashes: Escalation (another CPU intensive game) also fab.
Noob question but can this work with a 980Ti or does it need an AMD card? My system is decent but been thinking of upgrading my i5 3570k
Got a notification about this in connection with a "gaming laptop" keyword alert. Lots of people build their own PCs but how many build their own laptop & how many of those would put this in a laptop? This seems an unhelpful match to "gaming laptop".

Yes you can definitely pair Ryzen with a NVIDIA GPU. Even if you had a dedicated AMD GPU it wouldn't perform better because it's AMD + AMD. PS - I just upgraded to 1700 from the i5 3570k, would definitely recommend!

The 2600 is a bit stronger per core. If you got the Amazon France deal and its for gaming then that is a good deal. It will be plenty and you can put the saving to your graphics card or memory.

That's good to hear. Did you notice a difference in relation to gaming? Something I've been considering upgrading for a while now

Upgraded from the same CPU to this last year. Superb CPU. Your graphics card will be great with this, you'll need to upgrade your Mobo though.

It's an amazing CPU especially at 3.7Ghz, but mostly I notice the difference in work-related tasks (e.g. analysing data and multi-tasking etc.). Most games are GPU-bound, especially on a 980 Ti, so improvements would be modest except in CPU intensive games like CIV VI and Ashes: Escalation. If you were streaming your gaming, then the 1700 would be much better. Overall if the upgrade is purely for gaming I'd suggest getting a better GPU before getting a better CPU.

Thanks. Great info. I wasn't sure if my 3570k was starting to bottleneck my system on certain games. Noticed a few crashes lately when gaming and so on.

Thanks mate. Its mainly for gaming I am debating upgrading but not sure how much the cpu will help. But I've noticed some crashes recently and wasn't sure if it was.my 3570k bottlenecking my 980Ti

No prob. Could try running something like Rivatuner while gaming. Will show an overlay of %GPU usage and %CPU usage while gaming so you know what the bottleneck is.
Thinking of getting one of these and undervolting for a 24/7 server. This seems to be the normal price now, they are all probably trying to flog their final stock. Not sure how long to wait for the price to keep dropping before buying!

I put your specs into this coolermaster.com/pow…or/ (and the 1700 running at stock speeds)

took your hdds as 7.2k models and your 8x fans as 120mm..

The load came to 451w. Otherwise you are quite right about the psu effeiency being 50% as that will reduce fan speed as well . Meanwhile @Oneday77 I think you owe me an appology .

Edited to add this .. tomshardware.co.uk/nvi…tml the 1080gtx can peak to over 311w. That alone would make make me want a 600w pus with the correct amps on the pcie rails.

I’ve just loaded my system up. Running GPU at 100% and Prime95 running. At the wall, measured using a digital power display plug. It was an indicated 400W.
That is with my system clocked at 3.7GHz.

There was one error I made, I have my GPU power dialled down in Afterburner, though slightly over clicked.
With no heavy load on the CPU but full power to the GPU it’s at 350W.
Making your 450W for my system off, especially if I was to reset to stock speeds.
originaly it was "I’m pulling 300W from the wall with GPU at 100% load."

now its 350 or 400w ..

Either case i would not run 400w load on a 500w psu. thats 80% usage!
