Hold out for a month or so

There's always something to wait for in the PC building world

Sometimes you can't wait and it's still an amazing CPU for a great price (relatively speaking)
13% effective speed for an extra £130 over a 2600? Hardly seems worth it...
Sure I have seen this for cheaper.. might have been pc world ebay store not so long ago. Probably wort waiting for Ryzen 3

What are you comparing?

This has 2 more cores, 4 more threads, and unlocked so boosts higher on the right setup?
Unless you really need 8c/16t, the 2600 is a much better buy. Also i would personally wait for Ryzen 3000 unless you are on a budget then just get the 2600.

A ryzen 5 2600 at £130 vs this 2700x.

Thanks, though you've not mentioned the multi core performance gap, closer to 40% better on the 2700X, depends on the users needs I guess

It briefly dropped to 150 on Amazon, likely price error. Average price is £270 so in that respect it's a half decent saving. But I'd say if you absolutely need a 8 core 16 thread amd cpu now youd be better off saving £50 and getting a 2700.

I added a new post re 270px vs 2700 which I would have posted in this reply.
3600X is likely to be around this price on release. I'd wait to see if it's A. better, or B. if it's introduction lowers the 2xxx prices. It's only 2 weeks to wait.

Yep
The 3600 £229 And 3600x will be around 279...
2700x will be in the middle ball park between somewhere, they won't drop it too much yet as it's 8C16T so will have some advantage over 6C12T, as for gaming it's expected the 3600 is 7% over the 2700X (that's taking into account the X5 board).. which is £200 And X4 like £100+, so ill be paying somewhere.....

Had a debate other day about the 2600x dropping below the current price of £155, will it heck as the 3400G is coming at £160 Which won't beat the 2600X on performance and neither will they push the 2600 below the current £125 very much As the 3200G is coming at £109...

2nd gen prices will rise when 3rd gen hits..

Remember it's all about sale stats which make sheep follow.. so the aim now is to clear for the retailers, and once the new one is out game on pushing it.

There's rarely a new platform with new CPUs coming out in 16 days time though.
The 2700 at £160 was hot, this not so much.
Me: buys this

No one: Hold out until the 5000 series, as the 4000 will be faster than the 3000 series which comes out in a few weeks.
Waiting for 6000 series

Waiting for 6000 series

But the 7000 series is due soon
Have this CPU and it's amazing. I occasionally stream on Twitch and at 900p60 with a game and other things going it still only really maxed out around 40 - 50%

Fair enough cant wait to replace my 2600 with 7600
This is a beast of a CPU and I'm not sure that for the same price, you will get same core count/performance out of a 3000series.
IMHO, this spec even at this price point is still overkill for most people, especially for web browsing/youtubing and even gamers. For those people, you're better off with higher clock and lower core count which I assume can be bought cheaper.
Personally, this is my go to CPU at this price point just for the core count alone (for running numerous VM's at the same time).
This is a bit cheaper than I paid recently, so heat from me.
Just seen the leaked amd pricing from Germany. Think people are in for a shock, and not in a good way.

I'd buy this now if you're thinking of upgrading!
