hot for the deal. I still can't justify £100 more than a 3600 just for 8C/16T
Paid £329 for this on release and even then I thought it was a good price.
If you're a content creator you won't be disappointed. I even overclocked mine on the stock cooler.

Actually, this includes the Wraith Prism, which I gather is good enough to not "need" to be replaced by an after market.

I paid £155 for my 3600, then splurged £68 on a be quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 so I'm at £233. I think I'll stick with what I have, overclock, be cool & quiet, and not worry about eight cores until 4000 series
I've gone from a water cooled 2500k to a 3700x with the Wraith. Cant be bother to overclock not enough headroom to bother... 2500k Was a great processor but nice to get a little upto date !! When I feel that the 3700x is dragging its heels a little i'll just drop a 3950x :-)

Ha, same. Had it in my main gaming rig since 2011 OC'd to 4.4GHz, it still runs everything on throw at it on medium settings. I do feel now is the time though...

Can I ask what board you've gone for? I'm looking at the Asus Tuf x570.
Seems to be some Amazon seller (jkirby co) selling this for £219.99. Surely thats going to be dodgy..

Yeah went for the X570-Plus. Decent quality board at a good price.

Good deal, I just got one was planning on building a new pc this weekend anyway so good timing!
Good price. I'm in that awkward place of owning a 1800x (which I got for around £160) so this would be my minimum upgrade path but its more of a want than a need.

I was refunded last night by Amazon, stating the seller was ropey!! So avoid that one, if they are still on Amazon. Surely removed vendor by now though...
Used this to build my current PC over Xmas. Rest of the parts are here today (case, cooler, 2nd NVME).
uk.pcpartpicker.com/lis…cGc

Not built my own PC in donkeys and coming from fiddling with servers all day and having mini-PCs/Pi's and base spec laptops at home and work, the speed of current tech like this blew me away.

Its currently sat in a CoreV2 from a very old build with the Wraith on it but wanted it a tad smaller without going full SFF I downsized to the V1. If it wasnt for the amount of drives I could have gone that route.

Trying to buy a house this year so thought screw it Ill never get this sort of money for a PC again so went all out, ROG tax and all!

Not the same but I went from a 2600k to an r5 2600. Frame rates went up by about 30-40% in single threaded old games that were CPU bound and in newer games the minimum framerates over doubled, in games like bf1/5, newest assassin's creed, Deus ex mankind divided, total war warhammer, modern warfare etc.

Gave my 2600k system to my brother who was still on a core 2 duo e8400

Great thing about am4 is I can just plop a 4700/3900x or whatever in 2-3 years for cheap when more cores are needed

Gamers? No, don't bother. Spend more on the GPU.

Anyone doing any kind of creative / coding / content creation etc? This is probably the sweet spot right now if the 2700/2700X (which are now at great prices) isn't perfomant enough.
Super good price for a really nice cpu. If my motherboard could support this without some glitchy bios update then I'd be all over this. Hell, I'm kinda tempted regardless...

Good enough but it isn't great, you can get a Snowman T4/T6 on Aliexpress for about £10/£15 that is much better:

Yeah unless you are buying a very high end GPU (e.g. 2080 Super) then I would save money and get a 1600 AF and put it towards the GPU.

Is the 9600kf for £182 not way better value for just gaming?

I'd still go with the 3700X, or even the 3600/X, unless you game at 720p.

I have just ordered the 3800X, ROG Strix X570-E Gaming and a Rog Strix 2080 Super. Can't wait to give them a go. My gaming PC is ancient but I have a new monitor the works. Haven't fired up steam for some time but wanted it all ready for Cyberpunk 2077.

Yes massive jump. Raw processing power is in another league as you would expect. If you are looking at games then you need to balance the components.

I'm not disagreeing with you, IPC is still very important. But if you play at 1440p, this changes somewhat. The FPS drops, and the CPU is less stressed. The Intel CPU is thread limited to only 6, and on a dead end socket.
Edited by: "rev6" 11th Feb
Just upgraded to this from a 6700k. Was considering it for months. Really happy I took the jump, no regrets. The clock speed is lower but the overall speed of the system, and the fps is much better. It's night and day to me.

Yeah i got the 3600 back at the end of november for £153 inc 3 months of game pass. Seems like the best price to performance option that should last several years.
