Seems to be the cheapest price in the UK at the moment, very good bang for buck on this chip.

This or the 3600 for gaming only?

I had to make the same decision recently. Went with the 2700X because of the better cooler, similar gaming performance, and the fact that next-gen games are going to be designed around 8 core architecture for Xbox and PS versions.
Daaaaaamn good chip, sold mine today as I went 3800X on release (was considering options with this).

I'd still say 3600(x) for gaming over this though. The IPC+clock increase matter more than extra cores currently. Even once they're porting games from consoles with 8 cores... it'll be games not using all 8 of those cores for a long while yet.

The 3600 is 4.2ghz, it however has an IPC uplift of about 10-15% so clock for clock, the 3600 is doing 10-15% more work.
Effectively the (4.2ghz max boost) 3600 is running at 4.6-4.83ghz in Ryzen 2 numbers, the (4.4ghz max boost) 3600X is 4.84-5.06ghz in Ryzen 2 numbers.

It's a pretty significant uplift for... about £7 more. Ryzen 3 is better for gaming, even with less cores.

This years chips (Ryzen 4xxx, Zen 3, out in the Autumn) are the ones to watch. Between clock and IPC... Intel are probably all out of ground to stand on. They will be faster and cheaper, even for gaming, than Intels offerings. Intel due to come back sometime 2022 at present.

As to the designing Games with 8 cores in mind.. do you think they will want to ignore all the existing X +PS +PC owners? 300+ million 2Billion or more. Its more likely that the Baseline Gfx will go up as IGP's become more capable.
Some AAAA titles may make use of extra cores "Turbo Crysis 4", "Ashes of the Duality" "Wolfenstein 5 : Escape to Blighty" etc etc
Gone back to the spire cooler ??

I'm going to bite on this and order. However, will order from Amazon for £151 - couple more quid but I get it tomorrow.

Don't do any gaming, but it should be a good replacement for my current Ryzen 5 1600.

Heat for price!
