The new AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen CPUs have arrived boasting higher performance gains over its predecessor lineup. With higher speeds, more memory and wider bandwidth the new Ryzen CPUs look to improve on and upgrade the way you relax, work and play. The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X processor includes 12 CPU Cores with 24 threads and a base clock of 3.8GHz that can be boosted to 4.6GHz. The new CPU's are backwards compatible with older motherboards thanks to the same AM4 slot socket however with the newly released chipset of X570 motherboards you can maximize the power the Ryzen CPUs have to offer. Support for DDR4 Memory continues but with the new Ryzen CPUs comes the new PCIe 4.0 Version which has improved the speeds of which your PCIe components such as graphics cards and some storage solutions communicate with the motherboard. Blur the line between elite gaming performance and workstation-class content creation with the most advanced desktop processors in the world.

Nice.
Does this come with the game pass and free games or has that finished now? I purchased this last week for almost £50 more so could return and rebuy
Can someone explain to me why you would need 12 cores? I’m genuinely asking

I had a ten core but it wasn't quite enough so I added an eleventh core myself.
Sometimes I just need to dial the performance up a notch and going to 11 does the trick.

i have to wonder though, why you need so many cores.
unless you are running a VM hyperrvisor, but then you would probably go for a server CPU anyway.
but still, good deal for the money.
Overclockers are listing for £400 too, probably delivery on top, though if you go instore it's £349 according to their facebook post.

don't overclockers open stuff up, "test it" and put it back then claim its about finding out which ones can be clocked high. (I read this on reddit btw, i have never bought anything from there)

A) no one asked

B) no more then 10% slower than the 9900k in games so it's perfectly fine for gaming and productivity/streaming though for just gaming the 3700x is better value.

many reasons, faster rendering if video editing or working on heavy computational tasks, personally i run multiple Virtual machines to help me in my work, which require lots of resource's where time is critical.

7nm chip cant beat a 14nm chip in single core performance lmao.

That is complete nonsense.

Doesn't win on single thread performance, but very good value for money. Also, doesn't lose by much.

For reference, I use a 3700X and it's a really great CPU for gaming.

Yes, but it's not worth the extra it'll cost you.

Also, I can't imagine it being more than 5 to 10% better roughly speaking.

Ok thank you for that.
Im currently using a gtx 1660 but im using resolution of 3440x1440. Would i be better upgrading the gpu then?

I can't profess to know everything if I'm honest, best to check some reviews.

I'm fairly sure a GTX 1660 is 'somewhat' underpowered to run 3440 x 1440. For reference, I run the same resolution and I have a GTX 1080Ti. PM me if you have any more questions.
I'm looking at my 3 month old 8 core RYSEN 7 3700X with shame...SHAME!!

But seriously...the only time i've managed to use all of them is when im encoding video. Barely bats an eye running games etc

>calling people fanboys

>hardcore fanboying intel

Intel can't even get 10nm other than mobile and is going to release more 14nm++++++ fusion reactors meanwhile amd is on track for zen 3 later this year which will be another big ipc improvement with no platform change needed, clockspeed won't be able to carry intel above amd's already higher ipc after zen3.
How does this compare to the 3970X?
Just download more cores when you download more RAM.

I suppose that depends on how well optimized the editing program is with multiple cores. Might be worth checking the EpoxVos YT channel as he does a lot of content creator build coverage and reviews of CPUs for such tasks.

Cores are bloody massive though. Most home internet simply doesn't have the bandwidth to do this in a reasonable time, or without exceeding data caps.

It's louder than 11.
I could use them for video rendering, but usually I set it running before I go to (real) work.
You make a good point - it's futile buying capacity you don't need. But it feels so *good*.
At the rate these are dropping I just need to wait for while longer and can have the same spec I wanted 6 months ago and couldn't justify

No, their retail CPUs are in sealed boxes.
If you buy an OEM chip then supposedly they test some of them and sell them as pre-binned at a premium; Intel anyway.
They state that the ones that are average are not sold as OEM chips but are installed in systems; if I recall correctly.
So if you buy a complete system from them with a chip that they sell as pre-binned then expect to get an average or poor chip.

12 cores is woeful for some tasks, which is why CPUs with even more cores exist. Rendering, gaming whilst streaming, compiling, transcoding, machine learning. There's more but I'm not a semi-pro or pro user so there's loads of workloads I wouldn't have a clue about. I have a 6 core Ryzen as I run 3 or 4 VMs at the same time but they don't really touch the capability of the CPU if I'm being honest.
