I thought that however entered a job that required a high end computer to do work on.
So now I have a tendency to save up and buy higher than average specs although I might not need them as we speak, but it means I don't have to buy another computer should I need a computer to do specific tasks with.

That been said it always amazes me how CPU's like this come with free games, it's like they are advertised to be gaming CPU's when they ain't even designed for that... I suppose it's just a incentive to buy it though.

Is this too good to be a gaming CPU or is it not good enough?

If your after using it just for gaming I would say the 3600 is fine.

I use an 8 core R7-1700X for video editing in Avid Media Composer/Davinci Resolve and I'm tempted to go 16 core. Transcoding 4k footage to proxies for editing as well as working with several layers of video with various effects and colour grades on them all push the system to the edge. That is my job though, so I'm doing it 10 hours a day, so the cost of the system is less of an issue.

Think you'll need a more powerful one than this m8
Still a bit expensive.

When you think that 12 Core 3900X is £430, this 16Core variant should be around £570. But yeah, fastest and greatest version of a thing is always comes with a premium.

What on earth could someone be doing with processing power that would be suspicious? You can't just get one of these and brute force GCHQ you know.
Waiting on 64 core version
Not that I will buy it

I could certainly make use of this, just bought a 3900x and it reaches between 80-95% usage when rendering. Those extra cores would come in handy!

3900 is still a high end cpu and should manage it fine.

Get it!!! The 3900x has made editing fun again for me, I don't dread opening up a large project or get scared about adding effects. Editing with one of these must be pure bliss.

I meant more for editing 8k timelines, I'd still export as 4k for now, but with all that extra flexibility to crop.

Yeah, price to performance they've pretty much wrapped up the market segment.
