The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X processor includes 16 CPU Cores with 32 threads and a base clock of 3.5GHz that can be boosted to 4.7GHz. The new CPU's are backwards compatible with older motherboards thanks to the same AM4 slot socket however with the newly released chipset of X570 motherboards you can maximize the power the Ryzen CPU's have to offer. Support for DDR4 Memory continues but with the new Ryzen CPU's comes the new PCIe 4.0 Version which has improved the speeds of which your PCIe components such as graphics cards and some storage solutions communicate with the motherboard. Blur the line between elite gaming performance and workstation-class content creation with the most advanced desktop processors in the world.

Darn it, thought I saw 3900X in title, sorry, I down voted this, bargain for the lack of availability this gets!
I was holding to 3000, got 3700x, but might upgrade to 4000 as well if it will be supported by b450

I've read that it's probably going to be Q3 2020. Looks like it's well worth wait for though. I'm reading 17% IPC gains which is insane. kitguru.net/com…ns/

If B450 is supported, yes please.
Does anyone know if the 3000 series and 4000 series will use the same motherboard?

I should think it will be supported, it will still be AM4 after all but it depends how generous the board vender's are with the bios updates. My only concern with B450 boards would be the VRM. 8 core overclocked and 12 core stock on certain boards will probably be fine. 16 core or more and I would definitely be moving to X570.

2020 is possibly the end of AM4. 4000 could be pushed to 2021. I don't think we know yet.

I think it definitely will. It's highly doubtful they will release an X670 board on AM4 seen as the 4000 series will apparently be the last on AM4 socket. It wouldn't be worth it as X570 is already ridiculously overkill and I don't see what else they could offer on the AM4 platform, they already have PCIE 4.0. I think B550 will be the last boards on the AM4 platform.
4000 (zen 3) will 100% be am4..

What is less certain but completely doable, is the 5000 series both on am4 and am4+(or am5) or what ever they call it.

The only problem will be the Infinity fabric which could/will change and thus brake on am4.

4000 may slip into 2021. It will depend on fab capacity.

Yep, I think AMD played chicken with the price gougers for too long, their loss, I'll either grab one at 40% markdown later next year, perhaps wait to see what Intel brings.
14nm might be dinosaur tech, but 16 or 20 threads with well over 5GHz boost will be potent.
I'll just sit on 1800X a little longer.

I'm waiting for am5 and ddr5.

No, You need supercomputer with 50 of them.

you jest, my 8 yr old streams and edits his own videos. And of course doesnt like to suspend a gaming sessions to render - so multithreaded AMD goodness is a godsend for him.

As I understand it you will also need motherboard, ddr4 ram, SSD/Hard disk drive, power supply, CPU cooler, GPU, Monitor, mouse , keyboard, internet access, MS windows 10, electricity.
And finally £1.00 for the swear jar.
What's the depreciation on this thing ?

Intel has no real comp till 2021 or 2022
taras31/12/2019 23:45

Why

Because i'm not replace my pc every 2-3 years. Will be nice if i can put new cpu to 5 years old mobo or fit new ddr5 modules.

Yes as long as you pair it with an RTX Titan. You may want to go with a couple in SLI just to be sure your framerate is rock solid.

Not sure why people joke about this so much when minecraft does actually does require a lot of fast math processing when flying over the world with the render distance maxxed out. My i7 6700k could barely keep up rendering the terrain when using fast flight mode
Double price of my 3700x but still tempted to upgrade! The 3700x is a beast but this is a different kind of beast!

Why are excited for the 4000 series? What kind of improvements will we see?
Is this ok for Asus x570 motherboard?
Amazon Spain you can get the 3950x for 817.46 euros with delivery which is 694.14 pounds if paying by revolut in euros.

Does it prefer high single thread speed or lots of cores for that? Both is not an option

Unfortunately, it's not capable of running minecraft since it lacks integrated graphics. Thus, I'd recommend pairing this with an Nividia GT 310 for minimal, but solid minecraft performance.
