But will it run Fortnite?

Not in Megladon Uniquess Mode 11, you might have to try Mode 10, in case this opens your parachute, before you have even pressed the deploy button!!!
In Comparison to the delightful RipOff UK prices, that others are actually selling them for!

Wow cracking price. Pointless over a 3900X but if you have a X399 board or need crazy amounts of PCIE lanes that's a stonking upgrade.

This is a great price but I'd have thought the 3900X was a better buy? cpu.userbenchmark.com/Com…044

Trades blows with the 2950X but can be picked up cheaper, from UK retailers, motherboard plus RAM will be waaay cheaper and it will cost less to run too. If you need the raw cores Threadripper gen 3 is 'just around the corner' (I know I had to be that guy ) and if they make similar gains over gen 2 they did with Ryzen, or even just half as good as I've heard rumoured, the TR Gen 3s will obliterate anything and everything currently on the market, the price of gen 2 will also drop which will be a nice bonus

Why pointless

Why pointless

They perform around the same on benchmarks like Cinebench but the 3900x is cheaper and needs a much cheaper motherboard.

Also isn't the price likely to tank when the 3rd gen threadripper chips come out later in the year?

Its not, I had the 39's and even though they were fast, the 32T of the 29's is far superior, the price of the 39 is lower as its not as good, but you are right the 7nm new 39's will be faster as they are newer tooling die process, but they do not support QCM and so that will cause a big buffer slowdown on them, plus they will be stupid expensive, compared to this Q4-2018 variant!

The price drop you refer to, is here, on this deal, even the UK retailers, when they twig they are not selling them for £750 anymore, will not drop to this price!

It might even be a mistake/misprice/glitch/price match, its just cheap!

3900X offers the same compute power there or there abouts, better single threaded performance, motherboard and coolers are cheaper, it's more power efficient and offers PCI-E 4.

2950X offers more PCI-E lanes but Gen 3.

Quad channel memory, ECC memory support, number of PCI-e lanes. Of course, most people don't need any of that. Depends on your use case.
Only really good if you already have a threadripper board.. else you're better off getting a 3900x and a cheaper board.
If you own a TR 1950x like myself, this is less than a 10% increase over its predecessor and I would recommend waiting for Threadripper 3000 release.

I haven’t seen anything definitive about Threadripper 2, will it b be X399 compatible. I’m expecting it to be expensive
3800x falls just below on all core performance but c25% faster on single core, better for gamers

No one should be buying TR for gaming.

You had better let AMD's r&d teams know that... they have never sold so many in the last 3 quarters!!

Not to gamers I wouldn't have thought. TR is a poor gaming chip compared to mainstream CPUs.
