I priced up the following base unit for £125 using the above (no O/S).

Above CPU, mobo and processor - Quickfind 257985 - £67.98
Maxtor 250GB SATA HD - Quickfind 159393 - £15.70
Case + 450W PSU - Quickfind 174506 - £22.85
DVDRW (Retail - inc SATA cable) - Quickfind 194089 - £13.61
Molex to SATA adapter - Quickfind 158874 - £1.79
Extra SATA cable - Quickfind 161360 - £1.73
Kettle lead - Quickfind 20293 - £1.76

Total - £125.42

I normally wouldn't skimp on the PSU (I have a Seasonic in my normal rig) but at this kind of price I would make an exception.

Is this a dual or quad core?

Just single core out of the box.

Although it's simply a dual core with one core disabled. The second core can be re-enabled using the motherboard, but only if it's not a dud. Some will work, some won't. It's a lottery.

Personally I think this cheap for a single core set up. If it becomes a dual core then it's fantastic value.

Aren't the A3's triple core ?
One core disabled, but most motherboards can re-enable that dud core ?
If so it's a spectacular deal
But probably showing my lack of knowledge on the subject !X)

I'm pretty sure these are dual core Athlon X2 Regor's with a core disabled. The Athlon X3 and Phenom X2 processors are both from quad-core processors. Therefore if you're lucky with a Phenom X2 you can turn a dual core into a quad core!

However they aren't as cheap as this deal

good for a person a budget but the hard drives not in stock you might want to amend that

Recently built my new system around the Sempron 145 and I can confirm that the "Everyday Performance" is a fair assessment, a real bargain in my opinion. Second core said unlocked but then I had problems loading Linux Mint OS so I returned it to single core (you may have more luck in Windows). Bargain price so able to pair it with a decent Motherboard.

Quite right. Looks like it's gone out of stock since I posted. Maybe swap the HD for a 500GB model?

Good spot the sempron 140 is a great budget cpu with amd's usual scope for overclocking, in its natural state its a 2.7g but has been know to be clocked upto 3.5g and stable so if you can unlock the 2nd core you can have upto a 2 x 3.5g NIce :-)

I was going to post this deal myself, but I thought that everyone would vote it cold 'cos it's not an i7 and has cheap memory. X)

I know what you mean!

At the end of the day computer hardware only needs to be as good as what you do with it. This would be a great office/web machine. It's actually overspecced for something like Ubuntu.
