AMEX Gold Rewards Card Free for Twelves Months.

+ £20 via Quidco
AMEX are waiving the first 12 month fee for their Gold Rewards Card.
It's usually £125 and the rewards are extremely generous.

You get 22,000 MRPS (reward points) for spending 1k on it in your first three months and 12,000 for referring a friend. Double points on all petrol, travel, supermarket spend and hundreds of money off deals.

You also get two VIP lounge visits a year, priority sporting events and gigs and, if you have foursquare, more than £100 worth of "spend £10 get £10 off" deals at Nando's House of Fraser, Primark, Strada, Pizza Express and many others.

You can spend the points on a number of things, iPads, Vouchers, you name it.

Plus, if you pay on a gold card you are bound to get some superficial skank chick ask your name and what you do for a living and where you're going home to tonight.

REMEMBER: ITS A CHARGE CARD NOT A CREDIT CARD.
You cannot hold balance on the account for more than a month.

Enjoy.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE???????

nice

A charge card requires you to pay the balance in full at the end of each statement period. A credit card allows you to make payments over a prolonged period of time with interest charges.

Also topcashback is offering £10.10

They have been doing this for long while now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COLD

Is there still a credit check for this?

Did you get charged for joining the rewards scheme?

Can you cancel before you have o pay the £125 for year 2?

Yes, you can as long as you give 30 days of notice as far as I am concerned.

Yeah, god forbid that a deal should be posted that's been about for a while... can't be having that. What use are old deals to people who have never heard of them?

Doesn't matter how many people don't know about it... if it's old, it's cold.

Well this offer, if your an call it an offer, has been on for over 1 year!
Its like DFS and their sales, they are always on its not a big deal!

The deal has been going on for a few weeks but the foursquare deal is more recent. Check that out.

tempted but how can they justify the £125 fee

2 free airport lounge visits included with the card per year... using one tomorrow

I personally think its a good deal as long as you cancel by month 11 so you dont pay the ridiculous fee. Good find and i have not seen this deal before so have some heat.

QUIDCO are offering £20.00.

Thanks for the heads up!

quidco offering £20 cashback as well!!

Am I reading this right? 20,000 points is worth x4 Amazon £25 gift cards? 5000 points per £25 gift card. That seems good, especially if you plan to spend a £1000 in the next few months e.g. on a holiday.

So what is the consensus with this? Is it a good deal, despite the forum score?

As for the comments about the deal being around for a while. I didn't know about it so glad it was posted. Thanks, OP.

damn just paid for my holiday this morning. would have collected a fair bit of points as well.

Awww students can't get this one

How do you cancel the card before the 2nd year?

Couple of questions, hopefully someone can answer:

1) I applied the other day for the BMI Credit Card from MBNA to get the 20,000 airmiles, so that I can transfer them over to Avois. Can I still apply for this card too to get the bonus points?
2) How would it affect my credit rating taking out another Card a few days later?
3) How much is 22,000 points worth in terms of BA Avios miles which you can seem to transfer them over too?

You also get double points at super markets, petrol stations and for any travel expenses and spend abroad.
If you book your travel with AMEX I think they triple your points.

My advice is convert your points to air-mile as you'll get the best return, and BA air-miles at that - they give the best conversion rate from what i can see (and by a long way)

Do not buy Apple Products with it - its cheaper to convert to amazon vounchers and get an iPad then it is to get an iPad from Apple with the points.

1 - I'm sure you can, AMEX generally limit you to having two cards unless you've had one for a while and have always paid it off on time, or you put a lot of volume through it.

2 - I can't help you with this, however, when I leased a car recently it was beneficial to have more credit cards then none at all. When I took one out my credit score actually improved.

3 - 22k Will get you two flights to Paris or Berlin from London, or a single business to either. If you pay part cash part points you get an even better deal still.

Return:
London – Paris = From 9,000 Avios + £27
London – Rome = From 15,000 Avios + £27
London – Moscow = From 20,000 Avios + £27
London – Tel Aviv = From 25,000 Avios + Taxes, Fees & Charges
London – New York = From 40,000 Avios + Taxes, Fees & Charges - Their website says 20k per return?
London – Capetown = From 50,000 Avios + Taxes, Fees & Charges - Similarly, their website offers better then what they advertise

Cheers for that. We are in fact planning on using all our Avois points to upgrade to Club World on a flight to NY. From what I can gather (but please someone correct me if I'm wrong), flying from Heathow to JFK it will only cost us 10,000 Avois points to upgrade one way from World Traveler Plus to Club World. There are no extra costs right?

Seems pretty good if true as I can get a return for £800 in Dec in WT+ and it will only cost us a total of 20,000 points to upgrade both ways for a flat bed. Will need to get the other half to sign up for this card too.

Sounds about right, always worth calling though as you can barter a bit if there are empty seats. Occasionally they will charge you premium eco and bump you to business, but not frequently. You will have to pay nothing other than taxes

Yeah, the amazon vouchers are a better buy then buying products direct from suppliers, eg an iPad outright is about 10k more expensive then getting vouchers to the value of an iPad - however the best returns are travel spend. Book yourself a nice weekend away for 10k, easily. Also, its 22k for spending £1000 in 3 months, PLUS the 1-2k points you would have amassed from spending that £1000. Thank you for the kudos too, very kind.

PS - the foursquare vouchers seem to be down, you still get the normal vouchers from your card benefits scheme on the mobile app though.

I am interested to know if anyone has received their 20,000 points. Please could we restart this thread? AMEX have changed the offer now to 20,000 points dependent on a £2,000 spend, rather than a £1,000 spend. So curious to know if people are being refused their points.
