AMEX Membership Reward Points - DOUBLE VALUE!

Expires on 20/07/2020Posted 23rd AprEdited by:"Yossi"
***Possibly only Platinum***

Until July 20th, you can redeem American Express Membership Rewards points for twice their value as statement credits (which means 1000 points = a £9 credit), which offers a value of 0.9p per point. This is slightly less than you'd expect when transferring to various loyalty schemes, but can be put towards practically ANYTHING (effectively saving you cash, which you can invest, spend on low-cost deals, etc.).

Additionally, you can now earn double points on all spending.

Adding value with Membership Rewards® points

We understand that these are incredibly difficult times, and we sincerely hope that his email finds you safe and well. With so much changing around us all each day, we remain committed to ensuring you continue to get the most out of your Platinum Card®, and we are starting with Membership Rewards.

Enjoy double the value
Up until 20 July 2020, your points are worth double their usual value when you Use Points Towards Purchases – giving you the freedom to pay with your points for almost any item on your Card statement. Sometimes it’s the little everyday things that can bring us joy during difficult times. Simply choose an item on the American Express® App or your online statement and opt to pay with points.

Use Points Towards PurchasesEarn double points too
For the next three months you’ll also earn double Membership Reward points across all of your spend. From essential groceries, to shopping online or a delivery of fresh flowers, for every pound spent, you’ll receive double the points, up until 20 July 2020.

With no expiry and no cap on the amount of points you can earn each year, your points will be ready and waiting for you to use, whenever you like.

Lastly, we'd like to remind you one more that we are here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We will stay in touch in the weeks and months ahead, with more to support you during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with you and your families.

Yours sincerely

That'll do nicely, sir, and would you like to........
Looks like it's just for the platinum card
Only applies to Amex Platinum holders, a card which costs £550, not sure how many of us have a card priced like that in a place of best deals. I guess good offer if you have one. Probably Amex’s way of trying influence people not to cancel platinum as I suspect it’s not much benefit to anyone at the moment given you can’t travel or frankly leave your house really.

In theory...

...you could upgrade an account to Platinum, redeem, cancel and get a pro-rated refund of the fee. If you're sitting on >100,000 points, might even be worthwhile doing.

I think it only applies to transactions from 21st of April, of course you could do this in May, June or even July as the offer is supposedly running till end of July. However, not sure how many people are actually spending large sums of money at the moment, I am certainly not one as nothing is certain. Again, good offer if you were already going to buy something expensive and/or have a platinum card already.

I have a link for the upgrade with 20k of points but I think they post after 60 days. You could still bag some hotel status which may have some value to some people.
I got all excited thinking my MR points on the Gold Card could go a little extra mile only to realise its plat only Boo Amex Boo !!

It definitely applies to all points in your account, and any transactions (unbilled and for the past 3 statements, I think), regardless of how long they've been there. I'm in the process of redeeming many, many points now.

Not points, the transactions you are redeeming against

Transactions for which you may redeem points at double value include the past couple of months. At least, the system let me do that.
Actually misread the article, there’s another offer, you are getting 2 points per £1 spent on everything until 20th of July. That’s actually a better offer in my opinion as then you can get nearly 2p back for £1 spent if you apply this back onto transactions

If you can justify paying £550 for that then fair enough, I’d probably just get it after this is all over
