I get Amex refused all the time. How does this £5 deal work. Apart from few big retailers no one takes Amex.

Amex rates for shops are extortionate which is why most small retailers refuse to accept them.. and probably why you can get good cashback deals. I only ever use my Amex with large retailers for this reason

FWIW Previously posted here hotukdeals.com/dea…978 and has some good discussion too.

Yeah, OP above. I was just going to update it on Monday to state it's live. Not long now!

It's not come up on my AmexConnect account.

Details of how to register are still here - hotukdeals.com/dea…978 You're fine with a a non Amex issued card as long as it's not TSB, for some reason they're excluded this year.

expire this dog - the OP has stolen Morgie's thunder by 9 hours & I kinda prefer Morgie's honesty!

A timely reminder would be on Saturday when it becomes live, not 2 days beforehand!

another good reason to expire this dog

Will try a couple and see if they take Amex

very bad taste from the OP to post this prematurely

do you just use your card as you normally would and amex credit you the £5 or do you need to sign up for it?

Don't forget to register your card for the postoffice deal too. Seems like a good one to me. £5 cashback for £10 spend.

Times are changing. They have reduced rates and have had a big push into small businesses to expand. I was actually surprised at the amount near me that accepted it and are on shop small. Then you get big US chains such as Subway NOT accepting which is odd.

Have my route planned for the weekend to avail of this offer

trust me be with tsb

what a con 3 stores I went to today didn't accept amex card. yes they are listed on shop small...... total con

Seems a severe lack of off-licences this year

Contact Amex via the messaging facility in your account. They will contact the merchants and remove them from the promo if they're not accepting the card. They'll most likely credit you £5 immediately.

nothing came though after the transaction.
No email, no text msg, no credit in the statement.
Anyone with better luck?

Give it until the end of the week. No email doesn't mean it hasn't or won't track in the back end and still credit you £5 correctly.

Same here. No email.

Also did the post office one. Email straight away.

Amex customer service has been good when I have queried in the past. No confirmation for me yet but I'm still spending!

You mean the post office offer? £5 off £10 spend, got an immediate email for that too

There are some post office branches listed in the small shop map but I didn't get email for those, but been getting emails for other small shop merchants

Got the £5 from this no email
Post Office got the email* no £5

Email says 5-90 days for £5 to show.

Anyone know if you can buy scratch cards/gift cards?
For some reason, a regular off license is listed near me, so could I go get some Half price scratch cards???

Sometimes I get emails but I'm getting £5 rebates a few days later for all shop small

Yes, I use each year for Lottery tickets.... never had any issues apart from the lack of jackpot wins. Ask first if they definitely accept the card and if they apply any fee (like 40p max).

Are you mixing contactless and chip and PIN transactions? Contactless will be slower.

They charged 55p, but having a word with word Amex resolved that as well as the retailer getting investigated for all unlawful charges to other customers.
