Amex Shop Small: Get £5 back when spending £10+ at thousands of small merchants in July

Found 26th Jun 2013
In July, anyone with a credit or charge card on the American Express network can enroll to receive £5 statement credits when they spend £10+ at selected small businesses. Credits are limited to one per location and ten locations per card.

Step 1. Register your card
Step 2. Use the map to find a merchant
Step 3. Spend £10 or more with your card once per location

Any personal credit or charge card on the Amex network is eligible to register (including cards from Lloyds and MBNA). Supplementary cards should work separately if they have a different card number.

There have been several reports that Amex are offering a £5 credit if your Amex card is refused by the merchant.

Thanks for the heads up op. Had lots of fun with this last time the offer was on. Watch out for some small shops minimum spend policies though.

Wohooo finally another decent Amex deal!

it's back!

Very good find . Thank you

Too bad the foursquare deals have dried up too

yay, saved loads the last time this was on.

thanks op

brill, any list of participating retailers?

Just noticed its not as good as last time (spend 5 get 5 unlimited times). Can't blame them, it must have cost Amex a fortune last time.

Great pub crawl this if they take Amex

I must admit me and the wife between us must of had £200 worth of free shopping the last time they ran this offer, but last time around it was spend £5 get £5 credit back, there was loads of little corner shops taking part near us so naturally we spent a fiver here and there. It was great fun actually and quite addictive.

Last time my foursquare **** up and I bought about 50 quids worth of stuff and never got any cashback, no one could help, not Lloyd or Amex or foursquare. Gonna be careful this time.

This is BETTER than the foursquare deal! No need to faff around checking in to places. And more likely the transaction will be recognised by AMEX and cashback given.

Am I missing something, don't exactly live in the city but typed in my hometown of Carmarthen....nothing. Typed Swansea which is probs the 2nd biggest town in wales....nothing...Typed in Cardiff and only 2 participating places

My local pizza place is included - so a nice £5 off.

Also the Red Hot World Buffet is included so

1) Will use attached voucher for early diners costing £8.99 each meaning that 2 meals will come to just over £20 with drinks
vouchers.moneysavingexpert.com/vou…pdf
2) Will then ask to pay bill on two Amex cards, with one being the additional cardholder (not sure if they will allow this due to the merchant charge but will try!)
3) Best case will get 2 meals & drinks for £10-12 (with the voucher & 2 £5 Amex credits) - better than half price

Also noticed that KFC is included in a local merchant search - meaning a bargain bucket should only cost £5.

I'll guess that question is because you've just come home from the pub. Obviously all merchants have a unique identifier which is a number and not the name of the shop. Some online financial services shoe this code.

Where do you find these AMEX deals?
I got the Amex cashback card (£20 TCP), so I would find deals like this... but have no idea where to look!

great. !!

Thanks OP!

Heat added, but rubbish map; loads of places showing but not names or specifics, just dots on the map? Or is this something to do with the map not loading right?

Loved the Foresquare deal, just for the record!

Sorry duplicate post!

Ace, the local chippy takes amex. That's Newcastle for you!

The Harvester down the road appears to be listed - hardly a small business but hey

I don't think I've even seen a chippy that takes card in Norwich :P

Loads of places in Norwich and Norfolk though.

Thanks!!!

Check the place takes Amex. I tried the local deli last time. Got to pay and they don't take Amex. They are still on the map saying they do take it.

I put a postcode in for birmingham city centre and only get 1 merchant

You can receive one statement credit per merchant at up to 10 different locations, thereby receiving up to a maximum of £50 in statement credits. Participating merchants can be found at amexshopsmall.co.uk.

I rang amex yesterday regarding my gold card renewal and the friendly guy told me that there are some good foursquare deals coming up over the summer and lead up to xmas! Hurrah, that was enough for me to decide to keep my card for another year! He couldnt divulge what the upcoming deals were though

I have Lloyds card and just got BA card for the Avios. Can I use a different card at each shop? Agree, the spend £5 get £5 back offer just before Christmas was great, alot of smaller shops near me participating, got free shopping, jewellery, soft furnishings and coffee!
