This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

@cuddykid has their website back up to help us make the most of this offer by highlighting participating Oyster Topup Shops. Use shopsmallcrawl.com to find your closest participating location!

UPDATE:
This year the promotion is limited to 1 transaction per retailer up to 10 transactions.

I believe this happens around this time every year but just got my email through. As per the discription if you spend £10 at any Amex small shop (see the link for business near you) you'll get £5 back up to £50.
I know it's a little while away but definitely worth putting in the diary ready for the Xmas season!

£50 cap this year, so may want to choose wisely where you spend.

Runs 7th - 22nd December.

Always good for little Christmas presents.

I can’t believe people are topping up oysters to then get refunds. It’s no blinking wonder company’s stop doing things like this
It’s probably because of this they limited it to £50 per card this year, next year it’ll probably be ended

Just got this email as well. Nice way to save a few pounds.
Superb! But gutted at the £50 cap. Usually manage £100+ savings on my card. However I've now got a stack of 8 cards in mine and relatives names all ready to go so can spread the spend. Thanks for the heads up.
I got the email about 10 mins after I just cancelled my gold rewards card lol
When do they actually try charging £140 for the next year.. is it next statement run, awaiting Sainsbury's cc to transfer balance then close amex
is this account specific ? I have a platinum cashback card but it doesnt show up there

It will be pro rota’d so you’ll just pay membership for the time you have the card. Won’t be liable for the whole year. I’m in similar boat as I got my card this time last year, might let it run till I’ve used this offer and cancel.

Good shout, may do the same if it was like last year...
Nothing shows up for me in the business search
Not on my app
Nothing for me again lol
It will show up on some cards on 31st October. Got an email from Amex.
is this valid on supplementary cards too? i.e. £50 limit per card (including supp cards) or is it £50 limit per 'primary' account?
Even restaurants are included?
This looks like it may be one lot per account/customer this year. I received one email for me and one for my wife. One on The Platinum card and one on green amex. Given they are capped on fees for co-branded cards, I think they are trying to focus on their own cards more.

Other years it could be loaded to all cards. Hopefully it is just they are not sending out multiple emails to each customer. But it wouldn't surprise me if it was only added to one card this year as they have also added in the 10 times use limit (which I think only existed once in the past, years ago when it run for just one Saturday).

More of the better offers recently have only appeared once or twice across different cards I have. Previously they would often appear on all or most cards.

I've always found it to be valid on supplementary cards. I often shop and pay over multiple cards if shop owner OK to do that. For example Algerian Tea & Coffee shop on Old Compton Street in London is happy to sell me a 2.5kg bag of beans for £30 paid over 3 cards. Along the road is a great spirit and wine shop and I've bought £50 whisky over 5 cards.

I think last year I managed around £120 of shop small credit over 3 cards. I'll be using the full 8 this year to max the savings :/

Thanks for posting @k44nuyd we have added your thread to the Highlights section
£5 back up to £50 means I can use this 5 times if I spend £10 per shop right?

Sorry sounds dumb but just so I can sum up what "up to £50" means.

No it is up to £50 cashback which would be ten times, however I believe it needs to be either 10 DIFFERENT stores or 10 different cards. Going into 1 shop and doing 10 X £10 transaction on one card will only get you £5 cashback

10 different cards?

Amex is one card? What do you mean?

And yeah I meant different stores but say I spent £10 per store, the max I could do it is until that cashback hits £50 right?

Looks like AMEX are really cutting down across the board. Sign up bonuses have dropped significantly, same with offers etc.

Correct. Some people on here have supplementary cards which are treated separately. For example I have 2 cards so can use this offer twice in one store and believe I can therefore get up to £100 cashback. At least last year I could - some people seen to be suggesting this has changed.

Potentially, if they take amex. There was a map last year with all the London newsagents and which ones would do it with feedback. Most were charging a surcharge of 50p or a £1.
ludofarine21/10/2019 16:01

Yup. I spend the 2 weeks eating takeaway from restaurants on Shop Small. £10 to £12 for a curry and rice or Chinese. Then take off the £5. Not good for my waist though

It's running from the 7th to 22nd Dec this year.

It is quite possible to get over many cards between you and a partner. Various different versions of amex held with supplementaries per account. Each did used to count for individually for shop small. We will have to wait until the 31st to see which cards the offer appears on. Worse case is 1 card choose at random on your account.

Although since this started a number of shops I used to find useful are not around anymore.

Also first few times it was totally free money
as it was spend £5 get £5 back. And lots more bigger chains were on it like Hotel Chocolat and Burger King etc. They also did a west end spend £25 get £25 back and a Harvey nice one also. Those were the days...
Looking at the similar email from last year we only got one each for an individual card number. But it was available on all cards that we had, so it may be nothing has changed apart from the new 10 transactions per card new limit.
This is awesome - checking out the 'small businesses' near me that are taking part there are dozens of takeaways and bars so easy to spend just over £10 and get £5 back at loads of local retailers that I use anyway. Have had AMEX cards for 20 years and never done this.
50 cap! Well that's the fun ruined! Seems the bonus points for sign ups and referrals being cut across the board wasn't enough..
My local chemist has the offer. £5 off my flu jab again this year. (I'm not eligible for a free one.)
I think the £50 cap is my fault

Last year they gave me £495 back on each card. I had 12 cards

I told all my friends and family. We went to every single shop and even used them in the other towns
Went into 3 shops listed before, none took Amex, won’t be bothering again!

I'm in the same boat . Got around £250 worth of cashback across 3 cards .

Had similar experience with this offer about 3 years running in different shops. The shops are listed as participating in the offer on the Amex website, but when you get there they'll say they don't take Amex.

Can lead to embarrassment so just make sure you double check they accept Amex before browsing / paying and don't solely trust the Amex shop small site.
