Found 11th Nov 2013
American Express is doing another promotion where cardholders receive a £5 statement credit if they spend £10 or more at selected merchants on Saturday 7th December. This time, you can get one redemption per merchant at an unlimited number of merchants.

Step 1. Register your card
Step 2. Use the map to find a merchant
Step 3. Spend £10 or more with your card once per location

Any personal credit or charge card on the Amex network is eligible to register (including cards from Lloyds and MBNA). Supplementary cards should work separately if they have a different card number.

Last time, Amex offered the £5 credit through customer services if your Amex card was refused by the merchant.

I excluded it because it requires a Costco membership to apply.

Didn't realise that. We had the membership before the card.

Isn't there a free nectar Amex? I rang to cancel my last one when they put they charge on it. But then they told me about the free one. Got it just for deals like this.

Heat, too bad it doesn't include weekdays

why isn't the nectar amex card on this offer?

I genuinely complained last time as locations stated on map refused amex. Told them about two places and customer service gave me £15 credit.

Did you buy anything at the places stated? Or just told Amex they wouldn't accept it.
I know a few place round here on the map that won't take it.

The free card has been replaced by one with a £25 annual fee, ridiculous for a card with nectar points as the benefit. Any fee free Nectar cards would only be for existing card members, the same as for the platinum cashback card when they stumped a £25 fee onto that.

Nectar card is on the offer, its just not a free card.

My tip is sign up for the Gold card for a year, use it for this and other offers (including two airport lounge visits) then cancel before they try and sting you for £125

Refused from merchant last time I tried it. Had to complain.

Many thanks - just registered Heat added.

Will have a look on the 7th

Most small businesses I know refuse to accept AmEx due to their extortionate fees.

I think it's naff that it's just one day! Last time it was for a month.

be careful as some merchants are listed on the map, but when you look at the receipt after buying from them, they are a different company name!! ... hence no cashback.

Well I registered my free nectar to the website and it was successful, got an email confirmation too.

Thank you for registering your Card. Now you can look forward to a great day's shopping on Small Business Saturday® –7 December 2013.

There are thousands of businesses joining in around the country. To find places taking part near you, see our handy interactive map.

Just spend £10 or more on your registered Card in any participating small business and you'll receive a statement credit of £5, once per location.

I was getting the following error when trying to register

"The system cannot validate your Card information at this time. Please try again in a few hours."

And after a few hours, I tried again and got this

"Oops, our records show that you've already enrolled for this offer. We limit the number of times that a Cardmember can enroll for each offer. "

But no confirmation email in my inbox. Is anyone experiencing the same thing?

Even less small business accepting AMEX than last time in my town.

Seems to have loads in London but not quite the same deal as last time where you get virtually free £5 worth of goods.

Anyone know any newsagents in the SE London area who do oyster top ups?

Just found out about this, will be visiting a few shops in my area and stocking up! Hot from me!

Do this every time they have this offer! Great stuff. Amex customer services is top notch too!

Only 1 out of the 6 listed shops I went to accepted Amex.

Give them a call/email. They will usually be happy to offer you the £5 credit anyway.
