Found 7th Jun 2013
I've just noticed that Futeko.com (a UK supplier) have the Ampe A85, a quad-core 8" Android tablet, on sale from June 12th for the very competitive price of £83.99 (delivered and inclusive of UK VAT).
It has an IPS 1024 x 768 screen, dual cameras, an Allwinner A31 quad-core CPU, an SGX544 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a decent 4200 mAh battery and Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Definitely not bad for the price.
There's a review on Youtube of the 'deluxe' version here...

My sister-in-law bought an Ainol Elf from them last year. There was a wi-fi reception problem with it. They readily acknowledged the problem, exchanged it for one with a better antenna at no cost to her. I'd say that was pretty good service myself.

I'll second that. Bought an Android stick off them about two months ago and there was supposed to be an air mouse included in the box which failed to turn up. Notified them and they sent one out next day delivery. Was pretty pleased considering that I've no previous experience shopping with them.

I've also dealt with this company and they were really friendly and helpful when I had a problem (caused by my stupidity!). Buy with confidence.

They are just like any other firm, probably trying to make ends meet. If they get a few extra bob making referrals that okay with me. But the Ampe is UK stock so you should be safe.

I've bought two tablets and numerous accessories from them, all despatched from the UK
Support, both pre and post sales has been excellent.

unfortunately they seem to have a reputation for terrible customer … unfortunately they seem to have a reputation for terrible customer service, so for me unless it was a throw away price its cold. Over 80 quid isn't throw away.

Sent me a replacement charge cable no worries.

bought an eken a10 off them, they replaced it straight away when it had a usb problem

why they have "affiliate product" links

think they had stock issues for the last few months with the proliferation of branded cheap android tabs

Keen to hear how it goes,as its a decent price. I was also put off by the strongly negative reviews hence my initial comment so some good stories from people on here adds merit.

I've used Futeko on about 6 occasions. Even had issues but they always dealt fairly and promptly. I would definitely use them again.. Paul, Ysceifiog, North Wales.

Quad-core, 8" IPS screen, mini-HDMI port, £84? Hot.

No GPS, no Bluetooth. No Thank You

Most people use phones for GPS not 8" Tablets

Bluetooth is more of a loss but specs look good otherwise for price being UK stock.

Oh and another happy futeko customer here (Ainol Elf)

i bought a media streamer from them and when it came there was no google play store on it as there should have been, 1 email to them and without any issue they said return it and you can have your money back , which they did and the postage back and that was done the very same day they received it back so RMA turnaround was 2 days. i also have there top media streamer the Himedia 900b and after 9 months the control stopped working correctly and again 1 email and they sent me a new one through the post. I don't know where you got this information from but its rubbish they have been great both times ive contacted them and wouldnt hesitate to buy from them again and if i didn't have a Nexus 7 i would be getting one of these as its a amazing price for such a powerful tablet from a decent company.

This or Archos 80 titanium?

They have affiliate products because some Chinese tablets no longer have the European CE testing standard / certificate applied so they are not allowed to sell them in this country.

If you want GPS and BT, then the Tabtronics QX7 looks very good at a shade below £110 on Amazon.
The only downside (and the reason I didn't buy it) is that it's stuck on Android 4.0. There's a 4.2.2 upgrade but this has problems which don't seem to be being fixed.

Any reviews on the actual tablet? Is it any good? Smooth performance when doing basic tasks and viewing comics/books is what I'm interested in.

Anyone know if all of the 8gigs is available for apps or just a small partition? Bought a Versus Touchpad 8 for my son but returned it as only 1gb of the 16gb was available for apps

+1 for futeko's good customer service. very helpful and prompt service, got a ainol from them last year with mini HDMI cable missing. when i sent a mail it was sent promptly the next day.

I too have used Futeko and the replaced an item without Quibble when I found it was not suitable. I'm tempted to upgrade now.

If they are so good, why are a lot of people posting that they are needing bits swapped/replaced ?

Sounds more like poor product but good service

4 hour battery life, probably means 3 IRL would rather go for the 64GB Playbook deal.

I have also used Futeko a couple of times and never had an issue.
However when I was in the market for a tablet quite recently I did notice that they had very little stock, for many months on end.
I had thought, at that time...oh dear is this the end for Futeko?

Yup. Sounds that way.

Been looking for secound hand Nexus 7, But this look's tempting ?......Secondhand Nexus's still fetch near RRP which put's me off the Nexus, So may go forthis instead, Thanks Op..

I wonder how long it will be till we see 1280x800 resolution screens in 8" tablets for ~£80, they would be a lot more tempting.

The apps are mainly stored in the ram. this has 1Gb , and some off that is also used for system apps and the cache. So you won't even get a full 1gb for apps.
All android tablets work this way.

The 8gb should be considered the same as a microSD card - used for storing pictures, videos, music on etc ( and a very small amount of it is used for certain app's data)

I had hoped that this would be the case right now but it's taking much long than I expected. I also hoped that RK3188 tablets would become as cheap and as readily available as RK3066 tablets did late last year but that hasn't happened either. I am now pinning my hopes on Mediatek 6589M being the next big thing in cheap tablets but until then, the Tabtronics Quantum X7 seems to be the best VFM 1280x800 tablet available...

While I had the Versus tab for a couple of days I loaded about 20 apps only just a couple of them were games & ran out of space.

I have a 32gb Nexus 7 & all the available memory is available for apps.

1gb partition is just not enough.

I was thinking of getting at tablet for my dad on fathers day. Anyone else recommend this one? it seems pretty good. He used to have an XOOM but it broke just after a year.

If you go into Settings - Apps , at the bottom of the screen on the right it shows internal storage ( and how much of it is used will be in blue ). If you swipe left or right it moves to show sd card and whats stored on that ( and the free space)
Once your internal storage is full you cannot install more apps. It does not matter if you gave 30gb showing on the sd card !
Are you telling me the 32gb Nexus 7 has around 30gb free on internal storage ?

I have never known for android tablets to have all the memory showing as internal storage.

If you just want to get your Dad a basic-but-pokey tablet to play around on, for not a lot of dosh, this looks a particularly good deal. The tablet gets good reviews and it's from a UK supplier.

Care to back up your currently debatably worthless statement with any proof/evidence?

archos 80 cobalt can be sourced for c.50 on gumtree

The total disk space available on my N7 is 27.5gb & it is shown as a whole, not partitioned in any way. All the available space is open for apps storage. At the moment I have 3.6gb taken up by apps & rest is divided between photos, videos, audio, etc, & available storage left is 8.2gb where I can load even more apps if I want.
