So weird, feel like HUKD is tracking my Youtube viewing habits sometimes! Been looking at one of these and this definitely seems to be the best small form factor handheld emulator for the money. Think I might bite!

This is a dedicated emulation device with a 4:3 60 FPS IPS screen which, in my opinion, is a perfect fit for retrogaming.

Haha, literally just saw this on YouTube and it's here. The form factor looks amazing. Very tempted....
Hmm second hand Wii U or this..samish price
...cant the Vita play all of these retro games?

With the stock firmware GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES, SMD, SMS, PS1 and bunch of ports like Doom.
Hi all, please go easy with me I’m an old man who has no idea about these emulator things but I do love gaming and I was brought up on Spectrum NES SNES sega etc... I know this console comes with some games on it already but what I would love to know is how hard is it to get hold of the vintage/retro games to load onto a card and play on this or something similar, and do these have to be bought?
I almost bought myself a mini SNES and have been looking at the new Sega mini system but I reckon I would get bored quickly with the preloaded 20-30 games on each.
Thanks if you you can offer any advice, cheers
Yeah, that 64gb max card thing is gonna bite if you're going chocka with ps1 games.

The console supports an external MicroSD but it also comes with an internal one that can be replaced and can be used to store games.

That don't sound too bad.
But from the size of it in vid, it's gonna be a hard sell for me as it's tiny.

Generally it's very easy. You download roms onto an SD card, load the emulator and can select the folder where you put the games. However officially licenced mini consoles are the only way to get retro games 100% legally.

My experience with retro handhelds like this is terrible battery life and awful build quality (you get so used to official console controllers that you don't realize that they're actually very high quality). Can't comment on this particular one though.

I believe it's 128gb max MicroSD so should be enough. Mines on its way so can update soon

I can tell you that no one sells games for this handheld (retro or otherwise), at least not legally. There are countless articles on the web about where to find and (illegally) download retro titles that you can copy on to this device. HUKD's rules almost certainly prohibit sharing links to this kind of information so you're on your own unfortunately. Get googling or ask a retro gaming friend for help.
I might be being silly here but does this come pre loaded with tons of games like those shown on YouTube clip or do you need to find those online and transfer to the device via a pc or laptop?

I checked the link and it seems the price is going down to £62.15 on the 11.11 sale which is still higher than this TomTop deal.

Large 3.5 inch screen.
Jz4770 is a pretty ancient SOC from 2011 and was also used in the abysmal Neo Geo X. That said, of what I've seen of the emulators they seem to be pretty mature and not rife with usual frameskipping and tearing. There are builds of Mupen 64 out there but performance just isn't at a point that it could be considered playable (and it's doubtful it ever will be).

Not unless it's modified

You don't need to physically modify the VIta and there's an extremely simple to follow guide online. Google "Vita Hacks Guide".
New models are coming out SOON so the older (this one) will drop down more
also I have had a few items from China over the years and have never payed extra tax

The Wii U won't do you much good if you leave the room though But it's a great console nonetheless, if you like the Wii or Wii U game catalogue!
Just started looking at these. Save me the trouble of researching; this, the Bitboy or the LDK?

Hack the Wii U and you can play NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U and a lot more. Highly recommended!

If you want a true portable at a similar price then I'd get a PlayStation Vita.

Oh I know that - I have a Wii U and Vita both fully hacked I prefer the Vita personally because I like to be able to take it with me. Wii U means you have to be stuck in the living room! That was the point I was trying to make
'one of the best'

I'm more of a glass half empty kinda guy so 'one of the least s**t' would be more apt.

I know. I should've really replied to the OP and not you, as I was adding to what you already said.

A hacked Vita also works well for Amiga emulation. Using the touchscreen as a trackpad to play mouse games like Cannon Fodder or Syndicate feels completely natural. There's 68K Mac emulation too.

Never tried to emulate the Amiga on a Vita before - that's a clever use of the touchscreen! Will give it a go

Hi, I'm equally nostalgic for games from the NES/SNES era, though I don't feel the mobile experience recreates the experience that well. I'd think you would be better off with a SNES Classic for SNES games; there's a simple hack that widely available (Hakchi2) which you can find instructions for online, simply by searching for 'SNES Classic hack'.

The hack itself is legal, though you do invalidate your warranty; getting the roms to run the games is another matter, though they're all over the net and easy to locate.

Only limitation to the SNES Classic is that you can only play the Nintendo library. If you want a wider experience, buying a Raspberry Pi and loading it up with RetroPie is really the way to go; team that up with a good controller and you're off to the races: retropie.org.uk/
