Ancestry DNA is currently down to £59 from £79. The postage is also down to £9.99. I've not seen the postage at this price before, it usually £20.

Ancestry DNA allows you to see your ethnicity report and also get cousin matches. The latter is extremely useful for those researching their tree or have unknown lines (maybe adoption, unknown paternity or other unknown ancestry). Your results can give you clues which you can work with.

Ancestry has the biggest database, size matters when you are trying to identify biological family. You can also download your raw data and upload to: Family Tree DNA, MyHeritage, GEDmatch.

For anyone who has privacy concerns, please don't just quote some random newspaper link. The journalist often doesn't get it and frequently criticised by genetic genealogists. There's a blog post on the Legal Genealogist here: legalgenealogist.com/201…es/ who understands DNA in the context of genealogy. If you still have concerns, simply don't test, no-one is forcing you to do this.

Please don't just vote this deal cold because you personally would not buy it. This is a deal site, this is about price.

I've done 23&Me and discovered relatives living in Brooklyn no one knew anything about. Very tempted to try this with a database of 6 million (23&Me has 2 million). 10% quidco cashback

It doesn't. Database sizes here: thednageek.com/gen…te/

Update: more up to date graphs further down this link thednageek.com/dna…ts/ (website has nothing to do with me).

Anyone who has tested from the main testing companies can upload their data to GEDmatch (free) but in reality, few people do.

Only an idiot would send their DNA off to random comapny,

Er, no. If you don't know anything about the subject matter, maybe refrain from commenting? It isn't a 'random company' but a well established one. You do know that adoptees and people with unknown parentage rely on autosomal testing to identify family.
