VERY serious privacy concerns on these DNA tests. They own the data and will pass it on to whoever they choose. This not only affects you but also all your blood relatives. Please think carefully before signing away your genetic blueprint.

When I click on the deal and check out it wants to charge me £49 but it also says +shipping so is there another charge to send my sperm sample back to them?

Edit: Kit arrived with prepaid return box. So no extra charge

11% on TCB also.

Finally taken the plunge. If I find out I am Japanese, I'm not buying my Welsh Grandmother a Christmas present this year.

Looks like 15% Quidco

I have a quidco account but since all the fake £2.50 bonuses I have stopped using them completely. I'd rather have 11% pretty much guaranteed than 15% likely to be declined

Find out you are various percentages of various regions of Earth for £50.

Do you want to buy an acre of the moon too for £100?

Quidco is terrible at paying up, I’ve waited over 10 months for payments & don’t bother withe the £2.50 bonuses you’ll never receive them

23andme is a similar DNA test that GSK has now bought a large share in.

I agree the price is good, however please be aware of how your data will be used by companies who control the firms and the possibility that the databases could get hacked into.
I would be more concerned if Capita were to become involved with DNA testing, what with all the government contracts they have
Would love to buy this if only funds would let me! This could be a way of me finding blood relatives, I’m adopted, so good way in finding blood relative don’t you think unless anyone knows of a better successful way! ? X

Good point actually, so say one sibling gets a test, their data gets sold on to another company that then discovers they're at a particularly high risk of getting a serious disease..

Suddenly his brothers, sisters and kids life insurance quotes (and credit scores etc.) sky rocket. Scary.
I've done the test and highly recommend - although I did go from being 23% Scandinavian to 8% in the space of 2 months due to new data sets being added!

Going to hold off to see if Amazon price matches with free postage for prime (like on prime day).
New data sets have completely broken their algorithms. I'm now apparently 30% French (I'm English/Spanish and can trace back) and my partner is now Norwegian (she's Danish and can trace back).

At least before they got the countries right. Now it's next to useless.

If capita want to buy the data they can.

Same way insurers will.

Could you explain to me about these new data set please? Do these new data sets affect all DNA kits from other sites too?

I'm sure it was only Ancestry, and results may vary, but ours are way off.

Is it quite common for new data sets to be added do you know? Do you know if that's something only Ancestry did or do these data sets affect all DNA kits as I was thinking of buying from My Heritage who are also selling these kits for the exact same price. Thanks!

Ancestry are always adding new data sets but I assume My Heritage are doing the same. Ancestry has a wider range of samples but I believe My heritage gives you better geographic results so I guess its what you want to use it for.
Im half American and Ancestry has found almost 1000 4th cousins or closer so its been fantastic for checking that im on the right track on my tree! But only a handful of those 1000ish people its connected me with are British so you may not get those kind of results.

I don't remember putting my land up for sale! Get off my land! Surprisingly the first time i've said that online but many times in real life, bloody dog walkers thinking they can roam anywhere

Completely agree, and it’s the very reason why I’ve refrained from getting tested. Just reading their privacy policy scared me off.

Just imagine how GSK are planning to monetise this information.

Just got a MyHeritage kit on Amazon Prime for £48 but the mod Nazis won't let me post it.
Please note that the kit is delivered by DPD and needs signing for. I had three failed deliveries because I couldn't be home at the time. The main ball ache is they don't have a local depot for collection.

I believe ancestry has the much bigger database and will have more people from the UK than the others. Also you used to be able to upload your ancestry DNA to FTDNA.
Coming up as £63 excluding postage for me.
Have I done something wrong?

I don't like the way they don't tell you how much the postage is, until you've given them all your potential spam routes, either.
