Maybe I'm mad but how, exactly, do you get anything BUT free-range butter. Have we started factory farming cows in small cages now? Or maybe we raise them in closed barns for Barn butter?

My point is that I'm pretty sure all cows are grazed outside so all butter could be called "free-range".

Anchor are using a very misleading marketing phrase.

Whirly

Then as you yourself suggest, maybe you are mad, but more likely not seeing it as it is!

Some aspects of The dairy industry are pretty much as "Industrial" as any farming can be! (and it's tame here compared to the US!)
Routine use of antibiotics and growth promoters, is standard. Conveniently forgetting the appalling policy toward slaughtering of new born male calves, newer trends are the housing of dairy cattle in huge sheds where they see no daylight and are machine milked!, in some ways not that dissimilar to the way chickens are raised, although not as tightly packed.
It's only in recent years, since BSE that feeding has HAD to be improved, how do you think the BSE crisis came about in the first place - cattle of all sorts were being fed recycled dead stock, ( dairy cattle and beef cattle too)... the signs only became visible in Dairy cattle as they were the ones that lived long enough to show the symptoms!

No, dairy production here is NOT anything like free range, things have long changed from the James Herriot quaintness we have seen on TV!

Eh?

It may be worth me mentioning that Country Life butter is down to a £1 this week at the Co-op. Should I post this as a deal folks?
