Will Ferrell (Old School, Elf) is Ron Burgundy, a top-rated 1970's San Diego anchorman who believes women have a place in the newsroom - as long as they stick to covering fashion shows or late-breaking cooking stories. So when Ron is told he'll be working with a bright young newswoman (Christina Applegate) who's beautiful, ambitious and smart enough to be more than eye candy, it's not just a clash of two TV people with really great hair - it's war! Filled with wicked wit and slapstick humour, Anchorman is the year's most wildly irreverent, must-see comedy hit!

Over 25 minute of side-splitting deleted scenes * Outrageous Bloopers * Inside The Making Of Anchorman * Commentary with Will Ferrell and Director Adam McKay * Afternoon Delight Music Video.

I've got this but I've not yet watched it. Is it any good?

^ In short? No.

Original Poster

I first watched this on a plane back from New York. You could tell that MOST of the plane were watching it as we were all laughing out loud. I say "most", 2 miserable things in front of us sat there tutting at everyone laughing loudly.

However, after saying that I watched it on Sky with my kids, and didn't find it half as funny the 2nd time around.

Absolutely brilliant film, though it's one of those that just gets better and better with repeat viewings. The first time I saw it was it was on a plane too, but flying back from California, spooky huh.

Thing is, I've seen Hot Fuzz... my expectations of comedy films are through the roof right now. :giggle:

I could watch this over and over I think it's bloomin hilarious!

This is genuinely one of the funniest films I've ever seen. I know different people have different senses of humour - but honestly, if you don't think this is funny, are you sure you're even seeing the jokes, they can be quite subtle.

"shut your whorish mouth, you're just a ***** from ***** city" heh heh heh...

I also thought this was hilarious, but I know people who hated it completely and utterly. Not me!!

Possibly the worst film i've ever seen! It really is that bad. Yet some people rank it as their favourite comedy film!!!

It's a marmite film......!

I love lamp.

"Where'd you get those clothes? At the...toilet store?"

Ridiculous but very funny film. If you only see one Will Ferrell film (and let's face it, they're all the same) then see this one.

this film isn't bad but not magnificent

this film IS magnificent!

Its a joke a minute!

]Ron Burgundy: 1001, 1002, 1003.
]Veronica Corningstone: Uh, Mr. Burgundy? Helen said that you needed to see me.
]Ron Burgundy: Oh, Miss Corningstone. I wasn't expecting company. Just doing my workout. Tuesday's arms and back.
]Veronica Corningstone: Well, you asked me to come by, sir.
]Ron Burgundy: Oh, did I?
]Veronica Corningstone: Yes.
]Ron Burgundy: Ohh, it's the deep burn. Oh, it's so deep. Oh, I can barely lift my right arm 'cause I did so many. I don't know if you heard me counting. I did over a thousand.

Ahhh, so happy to see this rated highly enough to grace the front page.

This film is without a doubt in my top three comedies of all time.

During the following two days after watching this movie my stomach muscles ached from having laughed so much.

I'd say it's probably an acquired taste similar to the way some people think The Office isn't funny and others think it's brilliant.

Also, it's the movie that sort of brings Steve Carrel to the fore as a very funny man and preps people for The 40 Year Old Virgin - another class comedy.

The US has a DVD edition called "Unrated" and this is the version I have. I don't know if this edition is the same.

They also compiled all the extra footage they had left over when making this movie into another movie called "Wake Up, Ron" which was a poor film but for anybody who loved Anchorman and wanted to see more of his Ron Burgundy character it's worth wading through for the few great gems.

We've vowed to have Anchorman as the first movie we watch in our dedicated cinema room when it's done - not because of the audio or visual excellence but just because it's such a funny film and makes us happy (ah, bless)

" I'm Ron Burgundy??? " Class.

Great film, but i picked this up for £3.99 from WHSmith's over a year ago, so i'm surprised it isn't cheaper. I would guess that whenever the next big DVD sale comes round, this will come down in price again, but still pretty good for under a fiver.

A seriously bad film IMHO to the extent that I actually fell asleep during the film (the rest of the household thought it was crap too)... but then I don't like Marmite either!

I too loved this film to bits:)

"i`m gonna shoot you in the head with a bb gun"

"F*ck you San Diego"

"Would it help if i took som money from my wallet and gave it to you?"

Before the fight - "no touching of the face...and that`s it!"

plus many. many more fantastic one liners.

Get this if just for the deleted/gaffs extras:giggle:

This film is very funny. And this price aint bad either.

This is one of my favourites. Most of my everyday vocab was taken from this movie. You have to watch it over and over to really enjoy it. I have watched it loads and still laugh ou loud. Ron Burgundy is kind of a big deal! He has many leather bound books and his apartment smells of rich mahogany...what more proof do you need

I fancy Brick.

2 of my kids LOVE this film - (aged 13 and 15).

They will often just look at me and come out with a line from the film.

I didn't quite "get" the film like they did.
