[Android] Lone Wolf Saga game, based on Joe Dever and Gary Chalk's gamebooks, including Flight from the Dark @Google Play

This game adapts the gamebooks from the popular Lone Wolf series (Flight from the Dark and Fire on the Water etc., (with 14 of 29 books converted so far), written by Joe Dever and illustrated by Gary Chalk in the 1980s and 1990s (Joe died recently). You may remember it from your childhood. The game has an average rating of 4.5 on the Google Play store, with 100,000 - 500,000 downloads. The app asks for, but does not require, a donation to the game developer.

"This application makes use of the internet edition of the books, as collected, edited, corrected and re-published at projectaon.org

Fight your way through the minions of the DarkLords, navigate the seas of the Magnamund, and make wise use of your Kai Disciplines to survive in an hostile environment.

Use the options menu to gain access to the map, to your inventory and to all the options for the game; if you enjoy the game, please support it by donating through the in-game interface.

Create and save more profiles, select you favorite Kai Disciplines, carefully choose your way exploring the world of Sommerlund, play and replay the game for free for as long as you like; if you find any bugs, you can send me a report in real-time through the game-interface."

If you need help, paths through each book can be downloaded from the books section of the Project Aon website.

This game is unrelated to Joe Dever's Lone Wolf, a graphical game, available on Steam and iOS.

Wording above is slightly erroneous. Donations and in-app purchase monies go to the developer rather than the author. Joe Dever isn't affiliated with this app.

Thanks, updated text from 'author' to 'game developer' to be clearer.

flashback to my childhood

It's like an improved version of your childhood, as the app keeps track of your inventory/hit points, and finds you the next section. Though there's no easy way to cheat as you can only restart the book you are on, or regenerate a new character with better stats, and there's no 'smell of book' provided with the app (!)

Reading the reviews on Google Play, I can see some complaints that 'bookmarking' (presumably saving at a specific point) is a paid-for feature, and it's difficult to complete some sections of books without it.
E.g. This 2 star review complains:
"Force me to buy it, will you? How about no? The game forces you to buy bookmarks by putting ridiculously difficult enemies at the end of the books (Cauldron of Fear, 39 CS, really?)."
If you need help, the Project Aon site has maps of paths through the books, and from looking the map for this book, it seems that this reviewer's problem enemy could be avoided or reduced: projectaon.org/en/…vgz
