Android Motorola Motoactv fitness bluetooth gps watch £83 @ John Lewis

Found 25th Dec 2012
These are a bit of a niche device.
BUt if anyone knows the sony watch..well this runs rings around it
Was briefly available for £80 at the sweat shop but price went back up to £200..
Now available for £83
Without removing your bluetooth paired phone from your pocket ,this watch facilitates an at-a-glance awareness of sms's / incoming missed calls/other notifications etc so you can keep riding or running without breaking stride. Being a physical fitness training device it can be paired to suitable ANT+ devices..heart rate monitors, cadence pods etc
For the more daring it can be rooted and converted into the worlds smallest fully functional android device .. though you'd need a magnifier to play "angry birds" on the tiny but fully capacitive screen

Even Evans cycles have the device reduced to £99 ( instore/online) which is still better than the £212 Halfords-asking-price ..for the same premium-bundle device!

For people who prefer a relatively simpler fitness monitoring device there's also the Nike+ SportWatch GPS with Shoe Sensor, (Black/Volt colour)which was originally £149.95 but now £99.95 , link directly below

Why is this getting colds ?

Voted hot by me, good piece of kit!

For the general runner, gym goer who wants to listen to music while they workout this is a great wee piece of kit. Got a Garmin for my xmas otherwise I might have bought at this price

Can I put XBMC on this and watch TV / Movies on the go ?

yes StevieG, ..that's right..the watch learns what songs stored in it's memory motivate you and switches to them automatically when you need a boost!

can it be used for golf?

I like it

there's a golf edition I believe with all the worlds major golf courses mapped onto it but it's rather expensive, available on Amazon US..I don't know if this one can be hacked into the golf edition

Ask forum member "Kuk"..he seems to know a lot about droid hardware , their limitations/capabilities

No, It may damage it, I would recommend using a club.

Freaking bargain cheers op, gonna flog my Sony smart watch for 40 quid so only 40 quid to upgrade!

this is very cheap i find gps always gives me inaccurate readings running so not gonna bother but a definate bargain!

cheers op

Think it might be out of stock now? Shame looks like a good bit of kit

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Yeah OOS. Was gonna go for one too!

I know it's OOS but these only connect to Android phones?

I've been reading up on these types of devices on dcrainmaker.com - he does some great reviews but I can't believe they didn't make this Motorola waterproof. I'd snap one up if it was.

The golf stuff is even on this version, but not made available. There are hacks out there.

..this device can be used stand alone although it shines when hooked up to an android watch
I'm assuming you're wondering if there's an IOS platform equivalent?
There's the "I'm Watch" range which is technically better still than these moto watches but are significantly more expensive. Have a look here

Prices range from 299£ to 12999£ ..yeah you read right!!!
This would be the ideal watch as you can take calls to your phone on the watch itself..Dick Tracey style" while the handset remains complete tucked away.. but I simply couldn't justify the prices

The watch works on both droid and IOS platforms

Really good price for this watch.
I have one and its perfect for running or just to use as a normal watch

Wow thanks! Would love one of those but damn those prices are pretty insane to say the least.

You can buy any Ant+ compatible HR monitor or just get a lidl sold device and use the chest strap from it ...It's Ant+ standard compliant I believe so should work with the motowatch or it's own watch.Lidl's by the way may still have stock as they don't return the items to their central warehouse once an offer runs out. They simply store the stuff in their local warehouse and bring them out again when an offer re-materialises..Alternatively enquire in their clearing stores..Welling and Abbeywood my locals , always have stuff well after all other branches have sold out..
Basically these 2 stores are used as "mopping out" stores for stock that remains unsold in the south east
anyway here's a link to the lidl watch offer ..bought my elderly mum one which she uses to walk 5 miles everyday

alternatively simply wait a while for accessories , this device's production is on the wane.. google took over motorola ..and the price has been fluctuating .. (was actually lowly $96 ..about 60£ on Amazon- US during the black Friday deals)
and at some point there'll be lots more accessories than the devices themselves..most merchants will then be clearing the attachments for next to nothing.. that's when I plan to get the other bits
of course I could be wrong but would be a bargain if you already own the device at the time
