I added one to my basket and clicked through to the checkout options and it's fine - it offered me next day delivery or delivery in a few days with the standard option. I guess that's the "fulfilled by amazon" part ..

optional 2g......how?

would I be able to stream sky go via this ?

Anyone got experience of these boxes? Is it worth going for something more expensive?

I can't see why not - it's essentially a quad-core android tablet under the hood, although you may find the same problem i'm currently having with the catchup apps in that they require a wifi connection. there are apparently solutions, but i haven't found one yet.

I've got one and it's (almost) perfect - no real need to spend any more money. with a quad core processor and 1GB of ram, it'll play anything you throw at it.

I've got it linked to my NAS drive as well to stream all my media and it hasn't refused to do anything yet.

I tried one of these boxes and found it very poor, got a better xbmc/plex/emu box out of a raspberry PI 2.

Out of interest, what did you find "poor" about it ?

I'm guessing Kodi/XBMC etc not preloaded

I have bought 7 of these for family and friends, I have a KODI set up I created on the first box that I just copy direct to the Android/Data folder using ES File Explorer... It has played / streamed 720p and 1080p with NO ISSUES... Here is what I recommend:

1) got to Settings / More Settings / Apps and uninstall the old version of XBMC pre-installed.

2) Create a new GOOGLE account call it TV Box or whatever, If it says this email is taken Google will recommend another email for example TVBOX805@GMAIL.COM

3) Download and install ES FILE EXPLORER from the Google Playstore

4) Download and install KODI from here: OFFICIAL KODI DOWNLOAD and run it once and exit to the main screen.

5) Download and unzip THIS Pre Configured version of Kodi using Chrome or Firefox and put it on a Micro SD card or USB drive.

6) Launch ES File Explorer and go to Options / Settings at the bottom of the screen. Select “Display” and change the option to “Show Hidden Files

7) While still in ES File Explorer navigate to your Micro SD / USB Drive and copy “org.xbmc.kodi” (To copy the folder press and hold the Left Mouse Button and a tick will appear )

Navigate to your local storage “Android / Data ” and choose “Overwrite All” when prompted folder then your all done... A fully configured KODI / XBMC set up.

All Done, you now have a fully configured KODI with minimal effort

sorry but you have completely lost me - What is it? What does it do? and if you're Not a Scientist with a degree in I.T. How do you make it work?

Doesn't "fulfilled by amazon" mean as much or less than delivered by royal mail ?

Compared to the Amazon Fire Stick what more is this capable of doing ...I'm a novice and interested.

I got one, remote sucks. Hard to configure your own remote as you can't root the box and change the settings. At least not easily. It's not very reliable, I get audio drop outs and sync issues fairly regularly (10-20% on this, on my intel box it only happens if the rip is bad so like 0.5%), using quality scene mkvs. I would rather have got a pi2 where I can just install a properly supported and rooted openelec. And be able to configure it as I choose. I did manage to put a custom rom on this box but it isn't any more reliable just less ugly, and I got my harmony remote working. It's ok as a bedroom box but not nearly good enough for main setup. I am in the market for a nuc when I see a good deal. Till then I'm making do with this, it's barley adequate though. I'm tempted to dig out my big old htpc again till I get the nuc. I would get a pi2 but I'm worried it will be equally flaky. I know a nuc will be solid.

You'd guess wrong. XBMC is pre-loaded, but Kodi is easily installable and even simpler than Ace's method. Just fire up the web browser and google for "Kodi". Navigate to the site and download the APK for the latest version. Use the pre-installed "App Installer" app and bob's your uncle - done and done and Kodi up and running.

That's how I did it.

It's like having a quad-core android tablet plugged in to your television. you plug your HDMI cable in, plug your ethernet cable in and you're away. You can use Kodi (Media Hub) and other things like Netflix.

I haven't quite figured out how to get the likes of iPlayer and ITV Player to work on it yet, but i'll get there eventually I suspect.

It's quicker - quad core as opposed to the fire stick's dual core. it can also be connected directly to your router with an ethernet cable where the fire stick is wifi.

Apps-wise, they're probably about the same, to be fair. Although with Kodi, you have a plethora of add-ons to get you a lot of content that some may say is .. *cough* .. "questionable"

The box comes rooted already. I'll certainly concede that the remote isn't the best, but personally, for what I use the box for, I actually find it perfectly useable.

As far as audio dropouts and sync issues, i haven't had a single one at the moment.

I appreciate that, but the difference is between my method and yours is you will have all the best plugins ready configured for use in the UK and none of the junk, no need to add repos, plugins NOTHING... Trust me I have been using these Android TV boxes / Sticks for over 2 years and I promise, if you use my set up you will not be disappointed.... All in it will only take 15 mins depending on your internet connection speed to download the package

I defer to your experience sir

I've got a good few plugins sorted myself - genesis, icefilms, sportsdevil e.t.c, but are there any other ones worth getting?

I tried Navi-X but it didn't really give me anything I didn't already have.

EDIT: AMAZON RESTOCKED ON 28/03/15 Happy days

Edited by: "ace9094" 25th Mar 2015

Also had one of these for around 2 years. I use Navi X, Phoenix, Sports Devil etc etc but as we have a house in Greece it comes into it's own as regards that we get all UK Channels via the Filmon add on. Worth it for that alone.

I don't think that 1gb ram is enough. I bought the ott m8 tv box and its amazing

£70 is a lot if the people are not confident in using it, however £39 is not so bad.... You could get the MK808B plus TV Stick from Geekbuying for only £22 but it come via boat from China so take 4 - 6 weeks

I'm thinking of using a spare desktop as a htpc. Would that be able to do what this does? If yes, is there any guides on how to get it done.

Any particular reason you suggest a NEW gmail account? Security concerns? Just that you can install a load of stuff from your existing account right without paying again?
Edited by: "mgk" 25th Mar 2015

I have no idea why but I just bought it.

I do all my streaming with my chromcast and my g3.

Any ROOTED device has minor security concerns, That is why you cannot install Banking apps on a rooted device But you can use your own if you wish... you can add both or even several email accounts for all the family (Just set it to request password each time so no else can read your emails)

NO LONGER FULFILLED BY AMAZON - This will now ship from China and will take about 10 - 14 Days to arrive.

No you can't use Sky Go app because it detects it is a rooted android device so blocks the stream.

is anyone able to provide me with the standard rom that this comes with. I have been messing with openelec installs and custom roms, but I didn't make a backup of the original.
