I have this model - it's actually a decent printer, if you take the time to build it correctly - and building it gives you a better insight into them.

Are they worth it? That depends on you, any hobby or interest requires effort from you - some people who buy them have little to no imagination and end up printing a few knick-knacks before getting bored. The same folk can't handle their disappointment and usually end up telling everyone they can that 3D printers aren't worth it.

Purely from an educational standpoint, they're worth the effort - get your kids involved in the assembly and testing - try out some 3D modelling software and encourage them to get creating.

However, even if you can't handle simple 3D modelling software to create your own stuff, there are a some great sites out there with loads of free designs for everyday things.

This is a good price - heat added.

p.s. spend another £7 or £8 and buy an auto-level sensor - it plugs into the Z axis limit switch port on the PCB - it'll make life a lot easier.

Print loads of 3d printers. Make loads a money.
The Ebay listing has a Melzi controller board which as a design is about five years old. They're trying to pass it off as an Anet A8 as they're using the same chassis, and calling it a 'mk8' .The Gearbest is a genuine Anet with this years design of controller board.

Can quite safely say without fear of contraception, no difference at all. Either way you cannot buy the bits to build it cheaper

Which still makes it cheaper than Amazon.

It's just bits and pieces though.

Either way get it from the eBay link I posted for cheaper.
Been looking at these for a long time but never bought one because I’ve heard bad things about them, are they actually worth the investment?

But Amazon is easy to deal with if something goes wrong. Next day delivery instead of weeks.
Link to same device but cheaper and based in the UK as first comment to post.

Heat on dud deal continues to rise.

Bizarre.

Looks like the V1 to me. So acrylic H frame for the heat bed and 3D printed X axis holders. Likely the older motherboard too which has worse QA.

I got my A8 from Gearbest - if you select the standard delivery option it'll come within 2 weeks via Yodel (And likely no customs charges - like everything from Gearbest I've got with Yodel delivery).
I've had this printer for nearly a year now, it's fantastic and I do not regret it yet
Buy one. Print more printers. Sell them. You're welcome

Are these decent? Looking to use a 3D printer for costume bits and bobs
And you are basing this on what?

I ordered one and granted I had to wait 3 weeks but I got no extra charges.

Mine wasn't, when I bought it a few months ago. Probably luck though.

They take some work and a bit more spent on upgrades (GT2 belts, glass bed) but produce great prints for the money and I enjoyed the build process.

Yes but it needs work and probably another 20 quid or so on upgrades
Printed myself a new girlfriend and she cheated on me with one of those new wifi toasters. Voted cold.
I was just reading the eBay listing and I came to the same conclusion and they also claim auto levelling, yet I see no probe.
The frame also looks like the old version ANet one.
I would stay well clear of the eBay one.
The gearbest one which I bought has a great thriving community of people helping one an other with models upgrades a general help.

i'm really happy with mine 😊👌

You must have a lot of kids then :-p
I agree there, you will have a lot of learning to do also.
So if you are only wanting to assemble and be able to print Star Wars models, masks, light sabres from the off then 3D printing is not for you.
