Anglian Water Customers only: switch to SoLow tariff if you spend 75 cubic metres per year or less and you won't pay standing charges

The current Anglian Water standing charge is 8.22p per day for water and 23.56p per day for sewerage. If your household spends 75 cubic meters or less per year (ya, I know not for everyone!), then switching to a SoLow tariff will save you some money by paying for your water and sewerage without standing charges. Find a recent bill and do the math yourself.

This might be common knowledge to lots of people, but I thought it might help someone out there!

Thanks, will need to check this. Heat added.

Sounds excellent - just wish they did this elsewhere.

I have been on this for a few years and pay less than £150

There's a unit charge too? I had assumed my standing charge covered my meagre usage.

Any other regions do this?

sounds good what's the average household use if anyone knows.

They charge you for the water, you add valuable fertilisers, and they charge you again to take it away. It's a racket.

I'm a one man band - Affinity for water, Anglian for sewerage.

Typical use is 35 cubic meters per year.
Bill is about £156 per year at the moment on the SoLow tariff.

They don't automatically offer this tariff but when I phoned them to complain about their high charges I was moved over to SoLow, reducing my monthly charge from £32 to £9. They even backdated it a few months and credited my account with the difference!

I'm on this. No standing charge but unit rate higher. Myself and one daughter metered to solow metered: from about £22pcm to £17pcm. No bath only shower room. I shower about 5 times a week and her only about twice a week. Loo only flushed when necessary, about 3 full or 5 half loads of washing a week.
By my calcs we should be down to about £14pcm soon. Off the top of head less than 3 cubic metres a month. So IF you check your usage and use 6ish cubic metres or less a month definitely worth doing. If you're borderline I wouldn't as you'll drive yourself mad. Also checkout other tariffs for certain illnesses etc.

£9 a month sounds unsustainable unless it excludes sewerage or you never wash.

How do I figure out our usage please? Just the two of us here. I think we could be under the 75 cubic meters. But Anglian Water only provide our sewerage and our water is provided by someone else, would this count still?

Hi ScampiLamp, if you keep water bills, you might be able to figure out yourself. Otherwise, it's always worth callling AW and asking them to check your usage for you. I'm not sure about the other one, but the tariff is for the amount of water being used; there's no mention of sewerage. Give them a call ...

Thanks guys. I can't find an old bill for anglian water but checked my water provider online bills and our usage is 30 cubic meters for 6 months so we probably would benefit from the SoLow tariff I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they can do for us xxx

With that usage you will save about £15 a year. A saving, but but not exceptional.

This is HUKD. A £15 saving could probably buy us 7 nights in Majorca, two packets of AAA batteries delivered and a block of cheese

I'll check out a bill later and see.

Cheers op

We used 68 cubic meter last year and the bill was £270 Anglian for waste / Cambridge for water), on the solow tariff my calc shows as £316 so a higher cost despite being under 75 cubic meters

Just checked - Anglian charge £1.56 per unit compared to Cambridge 89p

A qubic meter is a 1000 litres

hmmm, not bad. Use 14 cubic m and 'return' 12.6 cubic m in 168 days so think that'll work out at around 70 notes saving a year does that sound right?

some people only wash twice a week?

gross! oO

Probably teenagers/students

Worse than that .... they take out the fertiliser ( which they sell to the farmers) and then sell the water back to you!!!!!

chocci
