You'll definitely lose all online functions with this sometime 2020 I last …You'll definitely lose all online functions with this sometime 2020 I last heard. Cozmo was ok but fragile lifting arm and limited features seen it played with a handful of times by a kid robot mad.

My name is Jacob Hanchar and I am the CEO of a Pittsburgh Ed-Tech company called Digital Dream Labs (www.digitaldreamlabs.com). I wanted to let you know that we have purchased Anki's assets and intend to restore the entire platform and continue to develop the robot we all know and love, Vector!

The most important part of this update is to let you know we have taken over the cloud servers and are going to maintain them going forward. Therefore, if you were concerned about Vector 'dying' one day, you no longer have to worry!

The next portion of this update is to let you know what we have planned next and we will be announcing a KickStarter under Digital Dream Labs in the next month or two. While we are still brainstorming we are thinking the Kickstarter will focus on two features we have seen as major needs in the Vector community:

1) We will develop an "Escape Pod". This will, safely, expose settings and allow the user to move and set endpoints, and by doing so, remove the need for the cloud server. In other words, if you're concerned Anki's demise could also happen to us, this is your guarantee that no matter what happens, you'll always get to play with Vector!

2) We will develop a "Dev Vector". Many users have asked us for open source and the ability to do more with their Vector even to the point of hosting him on their own servers. With this feature, developers will be able to customize their robot through a bootloader we will develop. With the robot unlocked, technologists and hobbyists across the globe will finally be able to hack, with safe guards in place, away at Vector for the ultimate AI and machine learning experience!

As a bonus, we will see about putting together an SDK so users can play with Vector's audio stream and system, which we have discovered is a major feature you guys love about this little guy!

This is just the beginning and subject to change, but because you have shown such loyalty and got this project off the ground in the first place, I felt it was necessary to communicate these developments as soon as possible! If you'd like to learn more about us and what we're doing, we have a video that can be found here that describes us, our crowd-raising efforts and our vision for education and the future republic.co/dig…bs.

Again thank you and the best is yet to come!

Sincerely,

Jacob

Great price. Discontinued product at the minute.
Terrible product. Bought one for my daughter from Amazon last year and it didn’t recognise her voice! Not even once. She got really upset as she thought it was ignoring her, so sent it back!
Does he make my dinner, vacuum and scrub my back? If he does I'll turf the wife out

Complete tat - speaking from experience........
My son loves his. Picked it up a few weeks back @ £80 I think from amazon, with the base bit too. Works fine, can understand my 7 year perfectly.
Yes, it's discontinued, it was originally released at 250, which was way too much for the functionality. For under £100, it's great fun.
but it is a TOY!!
Oh, and If the servers are turned off any time soon, I'd be sending it back to Amazon. But that's where I bought mine!

Digital dream labs purchased anki a few weeks ago and have mad a statement that they will be keeping servers online and providing updates. These are cracking little robots for the money.

Can't say I have that problem with mine, he will even play music through Alexa when asked

These are such clever little robots, watch him get annoyed with boxer robots and use his arms to hit boxer robots on head.

And here dancing to vanilla ice and then getting down in the dumps when you tell him it is bed time.

Good news, but the best (by far) product from Anki was the racing cars set: Overdrive.

How about supporting and building on that instead?

Vector was always rather useless.

Would probably pay the extra £7 to ger from Amazon for the ease of returns. As it is I got a new one for £50 off eBay because I'm a cheapskate who is too lazy to return anything

Bought one for Christmas for a family member and they absolutely love it!
They've used it way more than I expected, been a real success, very pleased to hear they will continue to live on as well. Wish ill informed people wouldn't state "definites" on forums, it doesn't help anyone.

I used their service for which they charged handsomely (£12.50 from memory) though you can arrange your own courier. To be honest, I'd get one like this deal with habitat included. I've decided that I need it and they are increasingly hard to find. By the time I'd bought the two separately I didn't save enough to make it worth the extra hassle

Thanks I thought that might be the case as even if they still sell for £20 + 50% and £12.50 is £42.50 and there is a chance that they may not work and it’s (around) £60 with a habitat! So have order from Costco... thanks for causing me to spend money!
