I'm afraid that's quite true, always good to try and set up a good habit for them though.

I'm the same, use my phone and tablet, but there's nothing better than a book in your hand.

Why is it not true? When we were kids we had some toys but mainly our pastime was reading books. The local library every Saturday and the school library too, even then there wasn’t enough to last the week. But I meant to say kids nowadays are more into their gadgets etc and don’t read as much. That’s my opinion. You are entitled to yours.

Yes, true. But it very much depends on the child. My Daughter loves to read. X With boys it’s harder, but you’ve just got to search a bit more. ..... x 📚

There is difference between my child and statistics.

Statistics from 2014 show that one in five children in England cannot read well by the age of 11 Further research, conducted in 2015, found that similar percentages of 15-year-olds across the UK do not have a minimum level of literacy proficiency: 18% in England and Scotland, 15% in Northern Ireland and 21% in Wales Students are less able to learn other curricula if they do not develop sufficient reading skills by the middle of primary school. 3 Only 35% of 10-year-olds in England report that they like reading 'very much'. This lags behind countries like Russia (46%), Ireland (46%), New Zealand (44%), and Australia (43%). 4 By the final year of compulsory schooling in England, the reading skills of children from disadvantaged backgrounds are on average almost three years behind those from the most affluent homes.

All you can do is encourage them especially at home. School are brill with ours, both Primary and High school.... I wouldn’t get bogged down by statistics too much !! X 📚📚
